USB drive protection

Is there a portable software or something similar available (free) that will allow me to put a password on my usb drive so that should I lose it no one can get in to all the data I have on there?

You can create a secure

You can create a secure container file, inside which your portable apps and documents can reside, with either FreeOTFE or TrueCrypt:

http://www.freeotfe.org
http://www.truecrypt.org

A quick note, TrueCrypt requires administrative privileges to run (or to be installed first by an administrator to function under less privileged account), so FreeOTFE would be the choice if you work a lot with your USB drive on different computers.

"Search" is your friend

Been talked about hundreds, if not thousands of times...

Two examples:
USB drive protection
Portable USB protection program

Yup, search is your friend.

What do you think brought him here to ask the question?

Unfortunately sometimes search brings you to places where rude answers prevail.

some new idea

for all those who ask for a software solution for some sort of drive encryption without admin rights, well there is some approach introduced here:

ok, it is a kind of complex workaround, portability slightly limited due to other windows limits and snags, but could be an idea how such thing could be solved in future.
