Pidgin: program startup

I'm not sure if it's my settings or if I have too many people on my list(which is unlikely since I know people who have thousands of contacts), but Pidgin always takes forever to start on my usb flash drive, even slower then firefox portable!
Any suggestions?

Try Fresh Install

Create a separate, but fresh install of Pidgin and see if it starts up slowly too. Do not install over your current instance, but install the new instance to a completely different folder. This way you can see if perhaps your profile is the cause of the problem or not. If the fresh install takes forever to start up as well then the problem is with your computer, mostly like your anti-virus software.

I know that AVG anti-virus causes VLC to take a long time to start (2 minutes give or take) on my computers at home. If I disable AVG, then VLC will start within about 20 seconds which is consistent with a "normal user" experience since it is a large app. Pidgin isn't small either but it shouldn't take more than about 20-30 seconds at most I would say.

testing results

Actually, after a bit more testing, it seems the problem is most obvious on this rather old Windows XP machine. So, it might be because of Windows XP or old hardware. But I think it's probably XP, since Firefox portable, although slightly slow, does not show same drastic slow down on that machine. I will see if I can get my hands on another XP machine to find out.

Thanks for the suggestion. I did try a new install, and it appears it's not because of my profile.
