To whom it may concern:
Thanks for letting me use the Thunderbird Portable. The portability is what I really appreciate about it, but I am experiencing some inconveniences with Version 3.1.7 as follows.
1) History tabs
When an email is opened, a tab is created next to the "Inbox" tab. The more emails are opened the more tabs are created. And when there are more than can be shown on the window, "left arrow" is shown. This is rather a nuisance to me. When I want to go back to the Inbox, I have to keep clicking on the "left arrow" until the Inbox tab is finally shown, then I can finally click on it to get back to see the options of Inbox, Drafts, Sent and Trash.
Because of this inconvenience, I have to keep deleting the history tabs quite often.
Besides, I never find any use of these tabs. Does anyone find them convenient?
After I read an email, I want to get back directly to Inbox, Drafts, Sent and Trash by ONE CLICK of buttons. These buttons existed before. Why did you remove such convenient buttons? I see there's still enough on top to accommodate them. Could you please bring them back?
2) Bug in "Edit Message as New"
When I send an email, and later try to edit it as new, "Formatting Bar" is missing. This bug has been there since a long time ago. Hasn't anyone noticed it?
3) "Contact Side Bar"
When I open a window to write, there isn't the "Contact Side Bar" button any longer. So, I have to click on View first, and then click on Contact Side Bar". I don't understand why you removed such convenient button. It's a waste of time always clicking twice when it used to require only once. Could you please bring this button back?
I do believe that these bugs are not because of portability, and therefore not caused by PortableApps.com. This would be something you would have to bring up to mozilla as they are the creators of Thunderbird.
May the Shwartz be with you
I will report the missing "Formatting Bar" in the writing pad to Mozilla forum.
Thanks.

We didn't remove the Contact Side Bar button, so we can't bring the button back.
However, YOU can make it magically appear!
Open a new message, right-click on the toolbar area, choose "Customize", and drag the "contacts" icon to the toolbar, and close the customize window. The button you want will be there each time you open a new message.
As for the tabs that open when you view a message... have you considered pulling down the Tools menu, picking Options, picking Advanced, Picking Reading & Display, and then choosing the desired option in the area labeled "Open messages in". BTW, mine is set to "open messages in a new tab" (as yours must be) but I don't "open" messages when I read them, I use the View/Layout/Message Pane.
The Formatting Bar is apparently controlled by the settings in Tools, Account Settings, Composition & Addressing and making sure that compose in HTML is checked.

Thanks for your instructions, J Neutron.
I tried them and configured in the way I don't have to be annoyed by the "History Tab."
I also dragged the "Contacts" icon.
I didn't know those were configurable by the user.
Thanks again for your instructions.
