Dexpot

Program: Dexpot
License: Freeware

Description:
From Dexpot website:

Dexpot 1.5 turns your monitor into up to 20. Dexpot creates additional workspaces you can quickly switch between. Take, for example, Desktop 1 to listen to your favourite music, surf the web on Desktop 2, use Desktop 3 to handle your daily word processing or switch to Desktop 4 for a game of Solitaire.

Dexpot is not available in PortableApps.com Format.
Portable zip file is avaliable.

@winterblood Portable version of Dexpot do not require administrator rights to run.

There is already an open

There is already an open source alternative for this: VirtuaWin. While it doesn't have the 3D transitions (and despite what the developers website says, it has a limit of 20 desktops, not 9), it is functional, stable, and fairly unobtrusive.
I've been using VirtuaWin on both my home and work PC's for over 6 months now, and have never seen it crash.
VirtuaWin also has a few positives over Dexpot:

  • VirtuaWin doesn't require admin privileges to run
  • Dexpot requires VB6 runtime and common controls installed on the PC for it to work
  • Dexpot requires a license for commercial use

Another alternative...

There is another alternative to Dexpot; DeskHedron.

DeskHedron is more simplistic than Dexpot and has none of the useful options, but if you're after "3d" then this is the app you're after.

Have a look at this for details:
http://tokyodownstairs.blogspot.com/2008/10/deskhedron.html

The DL link doesn't work but you can get it here:
http://ftp.crystalxp.net/crystalxp.net/63677/en/4/deskhedron-crystalxp.n...

It is an open source app and you can view the code in the app's official website.

The only problem with this app is that it isn't updated very frequently and this might pose a problem regarding unfixed bugs, etc.

For me DeskHedron isn't better than Dexpot

As I can see, DeskHedron has very small functionality compared to Dexpot and works awful with Aero interface in Windows 7 (and generally with Win7).

This app isn't updated at all since 2 years, so it looks like a dead project.

There are many apps for virtual desktops, you can find some of them here.

I searched through many apps for VD's, but Dexpot is the best for me: it has a lot of options and effects, many translations (including my language) and is actively developed.

The only small minus of Dexpot is license - you can't view the source and you must buy license for commercial use.
For me usability of the app is more important rather than access to app's source.

Please stop posting links to

Please stop posting links to apps that have been made portable illegally with Cameyo. They are not allowed here and will be deleted by a mod if you do not remove them.

I am purposefully posting to the post you are replying to so you can still edit your post.
