Network

Nearly all networks will block outgoing port 25 connections. This is due to spam. Your provider must support a secured or alternate port. The port you want is port 587. The details on configuring it for TB 2.0 are here: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=77662

I am using portable TB 3 v.

I am using portable TB 3 v. 3.1.9
I am using gmail accounts as IMAP
Hotmail accounts as POP3

I am thinking the problem may be in the IMAP configuration account. But not in the simple way, but in the use of multiple filter folders and subfolders in portable TB.

So.

http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=78892

because the basic imap configuration is automatic in TB3

So

I'll try to send messages with the hotmail accounts (I rarely do) and try sending messages with gmail accounts (the most usual) and tell here the difference.

Any help please ?

The yahoo and hotmail

The yahoo and hotmail accounts go well.

The problem is with imap accounts

A screenshot with the filter folder created in the client.
I think I have to create the filter in every gmail accounts in the server.

Is it true ?

IMAP doesn't send

IMAP is not used to send messages. SMTP is. There's a chance your provider is blocking the SMTP ports. If they are, there is simply no workaround and you will have to use their SMTP servers. Very few providers do this.

Please double-check your SMTP settings (which are separate from the other account settings in TB under Tools - Accounts - scroll all the way down to Outgoing Server). If you have issues, please contact either Google/Yahoo or your network provider as it is highly unlikely to be a Thunderbird issue. If you feel it is a Thunderbird issue, you can get help with Thunderbird including a full knowledgebase and forums via this link: http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/support/

Best Regards John. I have

Best Regards John.

I have spent a few months with this problem. But is reaching the final.
I have a network with two desktop and a portatile.
I use a cable modem and a router.
I have substitute in the general setup of my conceptronic router C150 a line :

DHCP Pool Start IP :

estaba puesto 192.168.2.100

y se puso 192.168.2.2

because of that terminal have IP = 192.168.2.3
puerta de enlace predeterminada = 192.168.2.1

Seems the problems have finally, but if i have any additional problem I will comment.

In other terminal I have assigned dns in the router and the terminal takes IP from the provider automatically, and therefore the dns.

no network problems

you might have misunderstood again, no ,you have not any network problems with your IP address or similar.

You have probably set up correctly your accounts for ****receiving mail**** but not for sending any mails.

The settings for sending mails are separate from the receiving settings.
The receiving settings server does not send any mails. So IMAP is not sending mails, POP3 is not sending mails, so the problem is not with setting of the receiving accounts at all. Since filters etc are applied to received mails, the problem has nothing to do with the filters etc.
OK so far?

Now go to the place in Thunderbird where you did set up the receiving servers etc.
It is in general Tools/account settings.

Now you have there your servers for receiving mails.
When you scroll down this column with all the settings, there is line saying Outgoing Server (SMTP)

Click on that one and do all the entries given by your provider, that means you have to enter the name of the outgoing server, possibly also login name and password and also set the required port, which might be either 25 or in recent times more likely 587.
What server name, port etc did you set up here?

Without those settings and definition of a ***sending*** server, you will never ever be able to send any mails at all.

Otherwise I would recommend you to get someone to help you with that, setting up is usually mater of minutes.

ohhhh this is complex

you have all sort of adons which do deal with identity switching.

Did you ever check what they do when you send an e-mail?

If you get a mail on the gmail and you try to answer it on other account, by purpose or because the identity selector wants it so, then this is bound to be a mess.
Q: if yahoo uses 465, does it do any encryption on it then? If not, why to use 465?

Are all other accounts with 587 plain mail or with some encryption? I mean some ssl or so?

Can you observe what smtp is picked up when you replay to some mail?
Assume when you create new mail and select the propper smtp by hand, all will work.
But remamber, when you have wrong mail address in the from: field, some servers will reject you already on the smtp, other might simply delete such mail.

ok so start again

let us pinpoint the problem to one single problem first.

You mentioned, that some accounts do work well other do not.
So what have the accounts which do not work in common?

One thing is tricky.
When you send new mail, you can choose which smtp you want use, well in fact this has to be done the way that the smtp you use is matching also the mail address you have in your from: field. If not, either mail will not be delivered, sometimes it will drop into spamfilters at the provider, sometimes the provider will also reject such mails.
So if your from: field is saying xyz@gmail.com, you have to use the gmail smtp.

Now do you use also correct passwords with all the accounts? If not, it may work sometimes, sometimes not. Often the server is set to a mode called 'pop before smtp'.
This is due to some mail clients have no way to enter password for smtp. In such case, even without password, you can send a mail, provided that defined time before, often some seconds or minutes, you logged into your pop account at the same service, assume similar would be with being logged into an IMAP account.

So if you are using ports 587, having the correct user name and password for that smtp server is a must.

Then my question abt encryption. Sometimes this can be used on some servers, but not all support all formats. Check with the server provider if you should tick any of the encryption modes or not. For example port 465 is often used for mail service with encryption, but in fact should not be used for smtp servers at all since it is allocated to other services. But if it is used, then encryption is used for the message transfer, but it does not say it will use encrypted password as well. So ticking the 'secure password' is bad idea, many servers, particularly freemail, have no idea what to do with it.

So let us know: do you use any encryption on the smtp on some of the servers?
If yes, are you sure the server supports it?

Also take care when you hit the answer button, it will attempt to use the account for smtp which the mail was addressed to.

And if I were in your position, I would start testing more simple. Install fresh copy of TB, then set one account only at a time and make it work properly. Note down all settings done.
Then delete all and set up again a new version, set up next account and test all until it works. etc.

TB can basically accommodate number of accounts with different settings, but if you have few things mixed up then it is difficult to rectify the problem.

Did you try to do same thing with other simple mail clients like Dreammail?
http://www.dreammail.eu/intl/es/home.html

I tried also to read some of the error messages. As far as I can say , some of them seem to indicate , that you are trying to read a pop3 account without supplying a password, some are related to IMAP failing to update folder tree somehow, which is function of the server then.
