VirtualDub Codecs?

Hello,

Just wanted to ask how exactly the plugin codecs work? Just run the launcher, and set it to VDub's folder?

That's what I did, and I can see some codecs inside ...VirtualDubPortable\App\VirtualDub\plugins\ - but whatever video format I tried loading into VDub it says "missing codecs".

For AVI it's says:

"Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'XVID' (unknown). VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable."

So I get it that if I install codecs locally it'll all work, but I really hate installing stuff, so isn't there some way to use the plugin codecs?

Thanks!

codecs

What exactly do you mean by "set it to VDub's folder?"?
You install VirtualDub Portable and then the Codec pack available on the page.
For something like DIVX or XVID, VirtualDube relies on locally installed codecs as outlined on the app page:

Codecs Note: VirtualDub uses a combination of plugins for codecs (see the VirtualDub Portable Plugins Pack linked at the top of this page) and codecs on the local machine, so if you wish to use a non-standard codec like DivX or XVID, you'll need it installed. This is unavoidable at the moment.

So you'll need to install XVID separately.
