[Fixed] LibreOffice insists another version is running

Running under Win7 32 bit.

I have been using LibreOffice previously. Have probably had Platform do an update since my last run. Anyhow, now any attempt to start LibreOffice gets a dialog box claiming another instance is already starting up and will not start. I've looked at running processes and find nothing related to Libre/Open/Star office. Even after a fresh reboot I get the same result.

I'm going to do a download and reinstall but am curious as to whether there is an answer.

Opening Documents?

Are you opening documents from the command line or restarting it while it is already running? If so, it's a known bug ( https://portableapps.com/node/28479 ) in LibreOffice Portable. There's a fix for it posted here ( https://portableapps.com/node/28473#comment-179414 ) and we'll be incorporating this into an updated version very shortly.

Instance

Not just opening documents. But if you click Writer and start that. Then click Calc while writer is already running. Then click either writer or calc again, that counts as a 3rd consecutive start and would be affected by the same bug. It's all one app (Calc, Writer, etc are actually all the same app), so starting it twice without closing is fine. But 3rd and later times will fail.

Trying to start it for the first time. Downloaded your PAL211.exe version and substituted it for LibreOfficePortable.exe. Same result.

Error dialog reads: Another instance of LibreOffice Portable is starting. Please wait for it to start before launching it again.

Delete a file

You'll need to delete Data\PortableApps.comLauncherRuntimeData-LibreOfficePortable.ini manually to get it back to the working state. After that it won't happen again.

Same problem

Fixed by deleting from the Data file: PortableApps.comLauncherRuntimeData-LibreOfficePortable.ini

How odd, will I have to keep on doing this?

Crashing

Are your properly exiting the app? Or are you pulling the drive out without unsafe ejecting or shutting Windows down without closing the app (which both effectively cause it to crash)?

must be different

hmm - that file does not exist
and if you ment this on: deleting the libreOfficePortabe.ini in \AppInfo makes the app fail to start
The best would be, if the launcher had passed the filename to where it belonged, but that does not work.
So how about, if you just explain, what should work?
To what is the file-type related, to the launcher, the portable...(..writer,..calc etc) or one of the soffice-files?

A work around solution

I found this on another forum and it works!

Open the following file in a text editor (like notepad):
LibreOfficePortable\App\AppInfo\Launcher\LibreOfficePortable.ini

At the bottom of the first section "[Launch]" add the following line:
SingleAppInstance=false

save and close the file and the program will load.

My problem was that I could do a clean install of Libreoffice creating a new folder during the install and it would not open any of the programs the first time. Yes, I have Windows 7, 64Bit and someone mentioned that is where the program is having problems.

This works!

I was having the same problem and found this post. Tried the last 'fix' posted by DDB and finally, the app opened. This absolutely worked. I see DDB's post was from 10/5/11, you'd think they would've included this line by now.

This work around works...

Strong work, DDB.
This solution worked perfectly on a recently installed version of LibreOffice on a PC running Windows XP, 32Bit.

Much appreciated.

Fix not working in current version

I remember when this happened the last time and this fix did the trick. However, the latest version, 3.5.3, this problem reoccurs, I've tried the fix again and it's a no go.
I've had to revert to an older version.

This is windows 7 Pro 64-bit

Same thing with Notepad2

I'm experiencing a similar problem, but with Notepad2 Portable. After deleting the INI file, it allowed me to open another instance of the program, but then it created a new INI file with 'Status=starting', thus the problem starts again. Do I have to keep deleting the INI file every time I need to open a new instance?

Also tried @DDB's solution but to no avail.

Just like @John T. Haller, I was able to open two instances before the error occurred.

Any idea?

This worked for me

Delete the other copy of "LibreOfficePortable.ini" found at "\App\AppInfo\Launcher".
