When updating using the updater I get the message:
"The downloaded copy of ... is not valid ... incomplete download or network issue, please try again,"
I tried twice, firewall is open.

Clear you cache and try again. There might be a corrupted package in your cache.
Or try a different mirror.
what cache ?
and how do I choose a mirror ?
I'm using the updater.
I cleared the cache and restarted the PC, problem still.
The updater downloads the Chrome installer, chrome installer attempts to download Chrome and I get the error message about a corrupted download.
is there a manual method of downloading the file and placing it for the updater to pick it up ?
... since there isn't any (Dev) release announcement, my guess would be a version mixed-up on the updater's fault!
PS : pardon my french!
14.0.814.0 dev
I have just updated manually (in-place install)
We don't announced Google Dev releases other than to say that they are available in conjunction with Stable and Beta announcements. Dev releases happen weekly and are used by a very small niche of users.
BTW thanks for the fix!
This is what I posted inadvertedly on the (Beta) release page... wish there was a way to delete it!

The downloaded copy of Google Chrome Portable (Dev) is not valid and can not be installed. This could be due to an incomplete download or other network issue. Please try running the updater again when complete.
[/popup]Pretty sure the problem is not on my side - Firefox updated without any fuss!... but hey, you never know!
[edit]
Wait : this is (Beta), there doesn't seem to be a release for (Dev)! How come my (Dev) wants to update ?
