there is a new release of Zotero as a standalone app. Can this be packaged as a portableapp? Particularly, can the Linux and Windows executables be co-located in the same directory structure to allow cross OS use?

The Portable Apps platform and launcher are Windows only, so packaging the Linux distribution with it would be pointless. However, the platform and launcher do run under Wine, and if someone were to package it, Zotero Standalone possibly would, too.
