How about before you say it is not portable you elaborate on why you think it isn't?
Sure it uses the registry. A lot of apps do, including a lot of apps here. The registry entries are cleaned up on exit by the PortableApps Launcher.
If you have noticed registry entries left behind after the app has been closed (and is no longer running in task manager) let us know what they are and we can help you figure out why they are being left behind.
Have you run the app using qBittorrent.exe instead of qBittorrentPortable.exe?
Have you associated .torrent files with qBittorrent?
Have you pinned qBittorrent to the start menu/taskbar etc in Windows 7?
Either of these 3 things (and more) could cause you to be using the non-portable version that is packaged within the portable version.
My system is set to a clean state after every reboot. After I reboot and tried to launch this portable app it removes all the torrents and setting. shows that it requires registry to save in your system before it can work normally.
I'm on win7 x64. Please remove this application ASAP. before more people ruin their registry!
Ok, answering a few questions will help here:
1a) Is qBittorrent Portable installed locally or on a portable device?
1b) If it is installed locally is it part of your system reset?
2) Do you shut down qBittorrent when shutting down Windows, or do you just let Windows kill the process?
3) Do you run the app using qBittorrent.exe instead of qBittorrentPortable.exe?
4) Have you associated .torrent files with qBittorrent?
5) Have you pinned qBittorrent to the start menu/taskbar etc in Windows 7 or otherwise created links directly to qBittorrent.exe?
And please stop asking to remove the app from the site. It is proven to be portable, otherwise it would not be an official app. Sometimes issues do arise within the app or the portability that may cause problems but these are quickly fixed when found. More often problems can be traced to users doing something they do not realize breaks portability.
1a locally
1b a different storage drive that save changes. a normal storage drive with no protection anything. could store and make changes, no restrictions
2 tried both shut down kill process or close the program properly result in the same outcome. after system restart it shows a pop up saying it did not close properly, and will wipe up all the data(torrents+setting)
3 qbitorrentportable.exe. im a firefox n utorrent portable user for years.
4. no i have never associate
5no
its not working... the program itself is a problem.... and who has proven that .. please just remove it.. its a scam, n annoy ppl after downloading for days.. and after a relauch everything is wipe out. this portable program is only for users who wish to run only once. please label "could only use once" /
I have used it, more than once, and have never seen this behaviour. In the last 10 minutes I have shut it down (both properly, by killing qbittorrent.exe and killing qbittorrentportable.exe), and could not reproduce what you are reporting.
Regshot showed nothing unexpected in all three case, either.
Nothing I could do could break the portability, so I am guessing it is something about your system. Someone else may have an insight into your problem.
to wipe out your settings? You said that "My system is set to a clean state after every reboot." so why wouldn't it lose all the settings you just did?
Maybe the way you coded the clean state is the problem?
okay, i just tried this application again in a unprotected OS. Win x64 also. first run with 3 torrents. quitted properly. First restart, it's still working.. 2nd try loading about 6 torrents.. doing force restart without closing properly.. this time the message pop up that qbittorrent did not close properly and will clean it. there you go all the torrents and setting are removed. So this program is not stable. i suppose its one of the major bug.. very risky for a frequen torrent user to use it. u will risk losing all your data. im better off with other portable torrent programs. good luck.
Why in the world are you force closing something? If you force close the launcher, it's gonna leave stuff behind, of course. The nice thing is that the launcher will clean up properly even if qBittorrent crashes. If you force close qBittorrent.exe (simulating a crash), it may lose its data, of course, as any app could, but the launcher will still clean up after it. But why would you EVER force close something willingly? When the apps work on a properly functioning computer, they'll work just fine. Systems simply don't really crash anymore unless they have MAJOR issues.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Ok, we have narrowed down exactly where it is happening.
I can verify that things are cleaned up properly if you kill qBittorrent.exe, as expected.
I can also verify that killing qBittorrentPortable.exe will give you the warning message saying it was not shut down properly, but it does clean up and works as expected with all data and settings on next run.
The only thing I didn't try was killing the portable exe, then the base app exe, which would simulate what you are doing. If your results can be recreated by doing this, then it is 99% probable that it is an issue of the base app.
As John says above, though, you should be shutting processes down properly, not just letting Windows kill them. Letting Windows kill processes is BAD, as not just portable apps can be affected. Other apps may lose data and/or settings when killed this way too.
everything its fine for a 2 days, and then this just came off, "another instance of qbittorrent portable is currently closing. pls wait for it to finish before launching it again" no i can't get into the program no matter how many times i restart and i almost end task everything in the task manager. how to fix it
If you killed it or shut down windows without shutting down the app first, that will do it. You need to browse to the qBittorrentPortable\Data directory and delete the PortableApps.comLauncherRuntimeData-qBittorrentPortable.ini file. If you fail to shut apps down properly, they'll break.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
nope.. i have made myself to close exit portable application manuallly properly. if not qtbittorrent will just format itself.. this time it came off a different message preventing me to get into the programe.. anyway i fixed it by reinstalling it. thanks
