Hello,
I tested Dev. test 1 at Windows XP Professional SP3 (32 Bit).
For this quick test I just tested some basic features (taking screen shots, some effects, adding objects).
Here is my feedback.
When I download the normal version of SC (Screenshot Captor) and install it, I get the "NAG" screen (remembering me to register).
In the portable version you show a message window reminding me that the license is temporal.
In my eye this message is not needed.
My portable stick has the drive letter E:\
In the preferences of SC in the section "Screenshot Folder and Tools" the "Screenshot Folder" is set to "Screenshots".
So on my USB stick this is: "e:\PortableApps\ScreenshotCaptorPortable\App\ScreenshotCaptor\Screenshots\"
I would expect the folder would be "E:\Documents\" or "E:\Documents\Screenshots\".
I took a screenshot and added an clipart object (in the right toolbar the yellow icon with the mountain on it).
A list of cliparts is shown.
When I scroll down the list (using the scroll bar) I get the following Error messages:
Message 1: List index out of bounds (-1)
Message 2: Invalid pointer operation
Message 3: Unknown software exception (after closing SC via the system tray icon)
Message 4: Abnormal program termination (after pressing OK in the unknown software exception)
The reason seems to be the speed of the USB stick.
When I scroll slowly (so SC has enough time to load all needed cliparts) then no error is shown.
If I scroll fast to be bottom of the list (dragging the scroll bar to the end of the list) then the error message is shown.
Note: a fast scroll works when all cliparts are loaded, so to reproduce this bug you have to start SC and then scroll down completely.
I often use the numbers that are at the bottom of the clipart list, so this is the reason why I found this bug.
Although I have an USB 3.0 stick (and a USB 2.0 port), this error occurs.
Seems to be the speed.
After starting SC again the folder for the screen shots now is:
e:\PortableApps\ScreenshotCaptorPortable\Data\Screenshots instead of
e:\PortableApps\ScreenshotCaptorPortable\App\ScreenshotCaptor\Screenshots\
Why is it changed although I did not change anything in the default settings?
I will continue testing and posting bugs here.
Maybe the already found issues are interesting for you.
In the Screenshot Captor forum I asked Mauser (developer of SC) to have a closer look here in this topic.
Maybe he can handle the error messages described above.

1. NAG screen & MessageBox: Both are from Screenshot Captor itself, I didn't add anything.
2. Screenshot folder: I'm working on fixing that. It should default to DATA\Screenshots on first run, and be able to be changed after that.
3. Errors: That's something to do with Screenshot Captor itself, not portablization-related.
Hello Gord,
To 1: OK
To 2: Is there a way to check if SC is running in the PAP or not?
If running in the PAP, then the folder should be "\Documents".
If not running from the PAP, the folder can be "DATA\Screenshots".
Yes, the user can set the folder manually to "\Documents" but setting it by default it would be more comfortable.
To 3: Mouser (Programmer of SC) wrote in the SC Forum:
I'll look into it -- I should be able to fix the issues this week.
As soon as I get any new info, I will post it here.
Greetings
OLLI
Generally we handle defaults as follows:
1. If %PortableApps.comDocuments% environment variable exists, use that. If not...
2. If X:\Documents exists, use that. If not...
3. Use X:\
The user can then change manually from there if they want.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
See Release Notes for details.
Please remove DATA directory prior to first run.
Hello,
I uninstalled the Dev. Test 1 (by right clicking SC in the PAP and selecting "Uninstall").
So the DATA Directory also is removed that way.
Then I installed the Dev. Test 2.
When I start SC, I get the following error message:
Message Title: Screenshot Captor Portable (PortableApps.com Launcher)
Message Text: Error: invalid value 'ReplaceAll' for [FileWrite1]:Type. Please refer to the manual for valid values
After clicking OK I get the Message about the non-permanent license key (this is OK)
After clicking OK I get the following error message:
Message Title: Error
Message Text: Error creating non-existing directory: 'Y:\PortableApps\ScreenshorCaptorPortable\Data\Screenshots'.
After clicking OK I get the following error message:
Message Title: Screenshot Captor
Message Text: '40.0' is not a valid floating point value.
Can you please check this?
Maybe you have some fixed paths instead of variable paths.
If there is a bug in SC itself, I can update my posting in the SC forum.
Greetings
OLLI
Oi, I gotta stop working when I'm tired. I'll fix the first two issues today, the third is internal to screenshot captor
Hello,
maybe you should get a coffee first before you package a portable app.
I updated the posting in the SC forum (because of the 3rd error message).

Maybe you wait with DevTest 3 until Mouser (programmer of Screenshot Captor) released a new version.
It should be this week (he promised).

Hello,
Dev Test 4 works fine here.
When I start it, I do not get any error messages anymore.
Now we have to wait for Mouser (author of SC) to release a new version.
I suggested that the path of the screenshots should be "[USB-DRIVE]:\Documents\" or "[USB-DRIVE]:\Documents\Screenshots\".
Is it possible to set this path automatically after installing the portable version?

Hi Olli,
I'm a firm believer in apps-being self-contained, so when an app needs to store documents, I try to keep them within the framework of the app.
Accordingly, I have set up Screenshot Captor Portable to use Data\Screenshots by default, but you can change that using Screenshot Captor's settings, and your choice will be recognized and won't change unless you change it again.
Hello,
version 3.0 of Screenshot Captor (SC) was released.
See here: http://www.donationcoder.com/Software/Mouser/screenshotcaptor/index.html
Mouser (programmer of SC) wrote in the SC forums:

So please update SC portable so I can test the portable version.
When I test the PortableApps.com version of SC, then I also can test if the packaging works correctly.
Keep up the good work Gord Caswell!
Greetings
OLLI
Thanks for the update. I'll get it up ASAP.
See release notes for details.
Hello,
Screenshot Captor works fine, no bugs or errors occurred.
So Screenshot Captor should be published as normal (not beta) portable app.
Then Screenshot Captor can be downloaded and updated via the portable apps platform.
Much more comfortable than searching for it manually here in the PortableApps.com test applications pages.

OLLI
Hello,
the "List index out of bounds" bug that I described above is still existing!
Here my original message:
I will post this in the Screen Captor forums.
Greetings
OLLI
I see mouser has updated the program to 3.03. I'll update to that, then please verify if the list index bug still exists.
See release notes for details.
OLLI_S: Please test if that list index bug still exists. If it does, please test if it exists with the base app portable zip to narrow down if it's a PortableApps bug (which I doubt), or a bug with the base app.
See release notes for details.
Hello,
at the Screenshot Captor website the version v3.08.01 is available for download.
It would be fantastic if you could update the portable version also to v3.08.01.
Thank you!
Greetings
OLLI
Thanks. I'll update this soon.
See release notes for details.
I was looking into posting this for official release, but it does seem to have a nagware component to it. We don't have any other apps that do that and I think it would make sense to come up with some policy towards it.
I know it doesn't (necessarily) nag you to spend money. But it does nag you to go register your personal information at a website. And, even then, it will start nagging you again at every launch after 6 months. If you don't want to register your email at the website, you can get an anonymous key, but it will start nagging you again after 60 days. Or you can buy a permanent key.
I'm breaking this out into a separate discussion so everyone can weigh in: https://portableapps.com/node/34908
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Depending on the results of that discussion, I will either continue to support this app, or (more likely, I suspect) drop it entirely.
Hello,
I would love it, if you continue this portable app.

OLLI
I also would love if this app is continued....
Hello,
version 4.1 of Screenshot Captor is released.
At work we use Screenshot Captor portable daily to mark bugs and non styleguide conform issues on applications we are inspecting (Ergonomics Engineer and Usability Engineer).
We are 8 people that all use Portable Apps and also Screenshot Captor.
Here I update the portable installations and deliver them to my colleagues.
So I really would love to have this app to be continued.
And also 7 other people would love it.
Greetings
OLLI
I'll get it updated this evening.
The base app has been updated to 4.01.0
Hello,
Screenshot Captor reports a new version at startup: 4.03.00
Please update the portable app to this latest version.

Would love to see this app in the list of Official Apps.

Updated, thanks.
Hello,
Screenshot Captor 4.12.0 is available!
Details see here: http://www.donationcoder.com/Software/Mouser/screenshotcaptor/index.html
Edit:
It would be cool to see Screenshot Captor as an official Portable App that is automatically updated via the PA Platform.

OLLI
Hello Gord,
any chance that you update the portable version of Screenshot Captor?
We are here now 9 people in our team that ALL want to use Screenshot Captor.
The problem is that all other users except me have no Admin rights, so none of my colleagues is able to install an application.
We can use portable versions, but not install applications.
So, please update the portable version!
It is really urgent for us!
Thank you!
Greetings
OLLI
As previously discussed, we do not currently allow nagware on PortableApps.com. Please feel free to use one of the other screenshot tools.
