It's a bug in the main Audacity zip package that isn't properly using the Visual C runtimes. I'll have a patched version out shortly. We should probably let Audacity know about the issue as well.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
you hav eit patched please let us know what the issue was as I can not duplicate it, but I am by no means a programmer. I have even tried it on a "clean: XP SP3 and can not crash it. Maybe it is not as clean as I think it is. Hence by knowing the issue I may be able to fix the alleged clean machine. Thanks
You probably have the visual c/c++ runtimes installed on your machine already.
Dell Computer came with it Guess that is what I get for doing a complete reformat and then not seeing what was on it?
I have reported in Audacity forum of issue
Edited: Appears to be a known issue as stated here http://manual.audacityteam.org/help/manual/man/faq_installation_and_plug... or at least that was response I got from the forum
This is fixed in Audacity Portable 2.0 Rev 2.
