I have been having problems getting PortableApps to run on W8. It will not run at all off the memory stick and when I try to run off the hard disk I get a message stating that the application failed to start because it's side-by-side configuration is incorrect.
I also get the following messages in the event log...
Activation context generation failed for "C:\Users\h\Desktop\Portable Apps\Start.exe".Error in manifest or policy file "C:\Users\h\Desktop\Portable Apps\Start.exe" on line 1. The attribute nAme is not permitted in this context on element assemblyIdentity.
Activation context generation failed for "C:\Users\h\Desktop\Portable Apps\Start.exe".Error in manifest or policy file "C:\Users\h\Desktop\Portable Apps\Start.exe" on line 1. The required attribute name is missing from element assemblyIdentity.
Any idea's what the problem could be?
I finally sorted this out - I had copied the installation from the memory stick to the hard disk and the copy wasn't identical e.g. there were different characters in the readme.
I reformatted the memory stick and reinstalled this time using Run as Administrator and it seems to be working fine so far.
