Upgrade?

How did you upgrade? The logs are normally stored as a part of your profile within SkypePortable\Data\settings\accountname where accountname is the name of the account. That directory isn't touched when upgrading an app in PortableApps.com Format. What version did you upgrade from? Were your other settings preserved?

The only thing I can think of offhand is if you upgraded from a very old version of Skype it may not have supported upgrading the message database (aka log), but that sort of thing is out of our control.

If some files were accidentally deleted, you could try to recover them using a portable recovery tool:

Yay Solved!

Thank you for your help. But it is odd that portable version even offers me update isn't it? I think it downloaded and installed non-portable version. I kinda don't get it?
Ok so this is what I figured. That originally portable version that was keep bugging me to update is now probably non portable version. So what I did .. is used your info where portable version keeps logs and copied whole map. I found out that regular Skype uses different folder so I copied it there.
I got logs saved now but... Now I have it installed not portable I think? so strange ... someone explain me?

Update

that would be it. some apps ask to update themselves. nearly all try to install locally. the best way to update is to use the portableapps.com platform, which handles it automatically. barring that, download and install the new version of the app over the old. you can uninstall local skype and then upgrade the portable one if you'd like.

Message History

What about preserving the history?
I write through Skype, and it's very important to me that I am able to move that message history to the upgraded one. I can just as easily copy/paste it to a note, which I do, but still. And contacts. If I upgrade, would I be able to keep my contact history? Or do I have to add them again?

Portable Upgrade

When you upgrade the portable version properly by installing a new Skype Portable over the old, which is all automated when using the PortableApps.com Platform, all your settings and logs are preserved. If you let Skype upgrade itself, it installs a local copy of Skype and doesn't upgrade the portable version.
