[Released] MyPaint 1.0.0 Portable Development Test 2

MyPaint Portable has been officially released: MyPaint Portable has been officially released: https://portableapps.com/apps/graphics_pictures/mypaint-portable

Application: MyPaint

Description: (from website) MyPaint is a fast and easy open-source graphics application for digital painters. It lets you focus on the art instead of the program. You work on your canvas with minimum distractions, bringing up the interface only when you need it.

Download MyPaint Portable 1.0.0 Development Test 2 [9.2MB download / 30.1MB installed]
(MD5: c21ca3aafb1f50efc945520c3e8583d8)

Release Notes:

Development Test 2 (2013-03-15):

  • Added handling of %LOCALAPPDATA%\recently-used.xbel file
  • Increased default size of main window on first launch

Development Test 1 (2013-03-08): Initial release

Please note: This is an older release of MyPaint, as the most recent version (1.1.0) is extremely broken on Windows. I will not be submitting this for official release until such a time as the Windows version is on par with the versions for other systems.

Also I built this on a dual monitor PC and saw a few weird things, so please check the following and let me know what you see:

  1. Do the Layer and other sub-windows display when you open them? (they always appear on my second monitor)
  2. Is the main window too small on first run?

Just tried on a single

Just tried on a single monitor myself.
The sub-windows appeared toggled off by default, but upon clicking the button for each they did appear just fine.
The window size upon starting the application was pretty small yes.

If at first you do not succeed, use more sticky tape.

Thanks for the

Thanks for the feedback.

Those sub-windows are off by default, so that is good to hear.

I will play with the default window size settings as time permits and post a new dev test when I am happy with it.

So far so good

I tried it on a three monitor setup here at work and here are my report thus far.

On the first run, the main window does open pretty small (it opened on monitor 3 for me, but this is just probably because of my weird setup).

I've open all the panels available and they appeared just fine (all the panels appeared on monitor 2).

I rearranged all the windows like so:
- Main Window on monitor 1 resized to fit the whole monitor (not maximized)
- All panels are arranged on monitor 2
After that, I quit the application and ran it again. The application kept my rearrangement and window sizes. So all was good.

I'll report back on performance issues once I have more time to run through it.

Many thanks.

Dev test 2 is up

I have increased the size of the main window (on first run only) to 780x580 (previously it was opening at 300x300), so still suitable for smaller resolutions but an acceptable size when opened on a 1920x1200 display.

I've also added handling for a file I missed previously in %LOCALAPPDATA% called recently-used.xbel - if you have previously installed Dev Test 1 and run the app you may want to manually delete the leftover file that will be on your system.

4 Months Later...Still Solid

I've been running this, perhaps on a weekly basis and I have not have it crash on me. It's been working with 2 different Wacom tablets (Intuos4 at work and Intuos3 at home). So, it has been working quite good, though I can't say my work I've created with it is at the same quality. lol.

Thanks for the feedback

Glad to hear it is all working well for you.

Hopefully at some point the developers will release a new (stable on Windows) version and I can update it.

Not yet

As indicated above, 1.1.0 was thoroughly broken on Windows and (as far as I saw) was never in a releasable state.

1.2.0 is still in beta, and as a general rule I don't package pre-release versions. Once 1.2.0 stable is out, then I will try to get the package updated.

[Released]

Can we mark this as [Released] and add a link to https://portableapps.com/apps/graphics_pictures/mypaint-portable to the OP of this topic?

Thanks.
