Google Chrome as default browser on Windows 8

Hello all,

I just migrated from Windows 7 to Windows 8 and cannot set Google Chrome from PortableApps as the default browser.

What I tried was the same what I did in Windows 7. I set Chrome as the default browser inside the Chrome settings and then edited the registry and search-replaced everything with chrome.exe to the GoogleChromePortable.exe inlcuding the matching paths. This worked very good with Windows 7 but does not work at all with Windows 8. When clicking an URL simply nothing happens, when trying to open a local html file I get an ugly error windows with "class not registered".

Can anybody help?

PS: I checked Google and many many search results there, including a hit to the the forums here ( https://portableapps.com/node/23082 - the last post already says it does not work with Windows 8), but I did not find anything working for Windows 8.
