I have Firefox Portable, standalone (without the whole PortableApps suite).
Firefox itself (Firefox.exe inside the App\Firefox folder) obviously needs an internet connection to function.
But recently I noticed that FirefoxPortable.exe attempted an outgoing connection as well, which was intercepted by my firewall.
I forgot to check the IP, but anyway..
This is not something I expect from an executable that is only supposed to start a program.
IIRC the same happened with Thunderbird Portable.
Nothing in the Firefox or Thunderbird Portable launchers connects to the internet in any way and all source code is available for your review. Software firewalls make false detections like this all the time.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
but i would check with mozzilla anyway
it may be a bug from original app not portable one
they r afterall trying to keep up with other modern browsers
also i have noticed that they are pushing out new versions a little fast
i'm not wierd, i'm just different
The FirefoxPortable.exe launcher is all code I wrote. I know for a fact it doesn't attempt to make any external network connections.

i was never accusing u i was suggesting that possibly mozilla made an error in updating the software code
not an issue of u
it is an issue of mozilla and pushing their products out so fast that issues can't be reported to them fast enough
i'm not wierd, i'm just different
This topic is specifically about FirefoxPortable.exe which has nothing at all to do with Mozilla. The launcher is separate from Firefox. This discussion is not about Firefox or any Mozilla code.

The rapid release cycle doesn't change testing. Arguably, features are being tested even more thoroughly. But as John said, this discussion is not about Mozilla.
How do Mozilla apps and PortableApp Launchers check for updates if they don't go online??
Ed
The PortableApps Launcher itself never needs to access the internet - it doesn't handle updates in any way (that is done solely by the updater component of the Platform).
Let me rephrase the question:
How do Mozilla apps and the PortableApp system check for updates if they don't go online??
Most everything on a computer now days checks for updates by going online periodically. My HP printer flashed a msg to me today that it had an update available.
Ed
Aikiki didn't have any issues with the PortableApps Platform, it was FirefoxPortable.exe which was specifically mentioned.
I was just trying to prevent them from becoming confused/misinformed about the Launchers need to connect (or lack thereof which is actually the case).
the program just tell mozilla about the issue and ask if they know what caused the issue!!
but then again if u have any extentions for firefox then start anew by getting rid of them all and getting them back 1 by 1 and see which one caused the issue
it is wierd tho that it would be happening with 2 programs from same original dev
do u by any chance have non portable versions of both programs
if it isn't happening with the normal apps then it may be a portableization issue that should be looked at imediatly
i'm not wierd, i'm just different
just it seemed wierd that they were pushing out new updates so fast
it makes no sense that they could possibly finish one version and the next day have a newer version
i know for a fact that it makes no sense
tell me that it doesnt make sense to u
i'm not wierd, i'm just different
