With Toucan gone, what do you use instead?

Do you still use the last version of Toucan which bugs won't get fixed? Or did you move to another program?

I don't manage to find a program that is better than Toucan. They're all either unfriendly or don't handle multiple tasks well. Do you know any?

SyncBackFree

Before I used Toucan I used to use the free version of SyncBack from "2BrightSparks". I haven't looked at it in a while and it looks like they've released some new flavors since then so I don't know if the freeware version is essentially crippled these days. It was very good though when I used to use it.

For now I'll probably use Toucan but I may take a look at the other synchronization programs on PA.c, as synchronization over backup or encryption is primarily what I'm interested in.

How about FreeFileSync

FreeFileSync was portabilized by the author with help from developers here (from what I remember).

Find it at:

Terrible preview

I've already tried all the apps this site offers. This one looks promising, but the preview is simply terrible. It doesn't help that you need to keep saving/loading external files in order to deal with multiple tasks.

Saving & loading files

Well, I don't know of any program that can magically perform tasks based on your mind-waves. Even Toucan required job files, with multiple backup plans linked together with scripts.

If you mean the sync preview, when did you test it? In the past 9 months or so it allows collapsing and expanding folders in a tree, so you don't have page through thousands of files manually to verify the process before it starts.

Also, FreeFileSync can be set up to create & maintain live (real-time) sync of directories, in the background, with no intervention required. That's about as close to hands-off as I can imagine.

If the program doesn't suit you, that's OK.

I've tested it just this week

I don't need magic. In Toucan, I can switch tasks right within the program. Whether they're external files or not doesn't matter because once inside Toucan they're right there in the Sync menu without saving/loading anything external.

I've tested the preview just this week. It's hard to tell what's going on there.

The live idea is great, but not something I personally prefer.
