Jarte Plus upgrade to PortableApps Jarte program

I've been using Jarte lightweight word processor and find it useful, especially because has tabbed documents and a lot of useful features such as equations. It is a good add on for PortableApps Office Apps, complementing AbiWord and LibreOffice writer.

Their "plus" upgrade, which costs $29.95, adds auto outlining, projects, autocorrect and a couple of other useful features. It would make the program more useful.

My question is whether I can purchase the "Plus" feature, add it to my Jarte PortableApps and have it still function as part of PortableApps platform. In other words, would it break the PortableApps Jarte or corrupt anything. I don't want to mess with the PortableApps platform since it is so useful to me.

Thanks

Jojo

Should Work

If their plus license works with their portable version, it'll work with ours. If it doesn't work with ours, we'll push out a patch to fix it. If their license only works with their local version and doesn't work with their portable version, then it won't work with ours either.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

AFAIK

It should work. If it does not let me know please and I will contact the author to see if it can be done.

Thanks for your and Haller's reply

I'll contact Jarte and ask them directly. I suspect it will. I was more concerned with the update messing up my PortableApps platform, but if that will be ok then I'll contact them and see if they know. If not I'll try it and see. I will, of course, post the results in the forum.
all the best

Yes and no (and maybe)

Jarte Plus works with portable. You do, however, have to download a different portable version than the standard (free) Jarte portable version at the Jarte site. Which is to say, you don't have a license key or something nice like that which you simply add to Jarte settings. Also, with the default Jarte (Plus or not) portable (from Jarte) settings you have to install it to a portable drive; installing the portable version locally will set it up as a locally-installed version--the Jarte doc on their site covers this. (not the best in user-friendliness)

Jarte runs in normal mode whenever it is run from the same drive on which Windows is installed or when it is run from a network drive. In all other cases (e.g., Jarte is run from a flash drive, secondary hard drive, CD, etc) Jarte runs in portable mode. However, this behavior can be overridden by placing a file named Portable.ini in the Jarte program folder. The Portable.ini file must contain the two following lines:

[]
Portable=1

true

but there are a few other things to concern to make it truly portable

Yes

but I'm just talking about the Jarte built-in/native 'portable mode', not the PAc structure for Jarte Portable hosted here.

So it looks as if there is are a few steps to follow.

Thanks mod_wastrel.

It seems possible to run Jarte Plus as a usb portable with the two line script you mentioned.

It also seems that the PAc version of Jarte can't simply and directly be upgraded to Jarte Plus. If it can please let me know which version to download and how to upgrade it in the PortableApps launcher. If it can't I'd hope someone can fix it so it can. Not an emergency, just a useful tweak I'd appreciate.

thanks to all

Since

I am the developer I will talk with the author and get a hold of a pro version and see what it takes to make it PA formatted

From the creeator

I have spoke with The creator and author of Jarte who states:

I'm glad the PA folks are enjoying Jarte! Yes, Jarte Plus will work with PA. PA users will need to install standard Jarte first, then they can run the Jarte Plus upgrade installer which will replace the appropriate files in PA's Jarte folder with their Jarte Plus counterparts. Upgrades to future versions of Jarte Plus use the same method.

Thanks to vf2nsr

Thanks vf2nsr for your rapid and complete reply. This is truly a great forum and application platform. I enjoy working with all the people here.

I'll upgrade and let you know the results. I expect it to work. With your answer I can proceed with intuition and vigor rather than hesitation and rigor because of the fear that I would mess up my, by now 70+ portable applications suite.

Thanks again.

One issue I found

I had an issue with the spellchecker wrote to the author and received the following:

The current version displays an error if a spelling dictionary is not present. It is a bug that will be fixed in the next release. Copy files ssceam2.clx and ssceam.tlx from the Spell folder to your Jarte PA installation and see if that fixes the problem.

Once I did so it worked flawlessly
