Hi...I was wondering, please--I just downloaded FreeFileSync Portable, which is an .exe file. Does this mean that this app will install in the registry like other .exe files?
I was looking to use zipped file applications only, no more registry installs. I.e., no more program set-ups.
I was under the impression PortableApps.com did this, and did not include applications that would install in the registry (and, thus, I thought, no .exe's as well).
Am I missing something here, please?
Thanks--.
Sincerely,
Crazy Horse
Just because a file is installed from a .exe does not automatically mean it writes to the registry, and on the flipside just because a program comes packaged in a zip does not mean the program inside won't write to the registry.
The way that PortableApps programs work is that we do not prevent the programs from doing what they normally would do (writing to the registry, creating and modifying files on your computer).
What we do is clean up after the application once it closes, so that the parts of the registry that a particular app may have written to are reverted to what they were before the PortableApp was run, and files/folders are moved between the host PC and the portable package as needed.

You can find it in the future by clicking the What is a portable app? link in the lefthand side of most pages of the site.

Any updates about solving the bug?
Thank You.
This thread wasn't a bug report, it was just a question about how our apps (specifically FreeFileSync) work in regards to registry settings.
You'd need to ask the publisher. They seem to have no interest in it: https://sourceforge.net/p/freefilesync/discussion/open-discussion/thread...
So, not only can we not package, but you can't even run the base version from the PA.c Platform or any other portable menu.
