There are 3rd party legal DRM removal tools. ( http://mp3.about.com/od/essentialsoftware/tp/best_drm_removal_software.htm ) I don't want to do anything with the DRM just not use the annoying Audible client to listen to the books.
What are my better portable options? Perhaps anyone tried these for playback? Any of these are preferred over the other?

I was referred to iTunes. Sure, there are bootleg portable versions of it, the question is which is the oldest/lightest but still useful version number around to use?
