There is a major upgrade available for Listary. I just got Portable Apps and chose to get 144 apps. The installer downloaded/installed Listary, version 3.5, even though version 4+ was already out. Why was that? I also noticed after running the command "Check for Updates" that Listary still was not upgraded. Why is keeping this app (or any other app, for that matter) from getting upgraded?
Another question: if I go out and upgrade Listary "manually" will it mess up the Portable Apps system, that is, the way everything is set up and organized?
I appreciate your help.
As indicated on the outdated apps page, Listary 4.0 and higher is too broken to be functional for most users. It asks for admin rights to run (which most users will not have) and will wind up crashing/hanging later on if you don't give it admin rights. As such, we offer the last fully working version to our users.
You're free to manually download the zip of Listary 4.0 and place it in a PortableApps\Listary directory (not ListaryPortable) and use it. Just understand the above-mentioned major limitations. If you're only using it on your own PC where you have admin rights, it will work. But it will prompt you for admin rights via UAC on every launch and you'll need to say Yes.
UPDATE: I added a note to the Listary Portable homepage explaining this for other curious users.
