My VLC on the usb stick refused to work, so I went to install it again.
However the downloaded files refuse to install, I downloaded it few times and get error that file not OK.
Is there a problem or should I investigate more?

after finally managed by some miracle to reinstall VLC, it still refuses to do anything. When started, it displays a box saying fonts have to be rebuild (fonts for VLC???) , this takes some minutes and after that any file opened from VLC is closed immediately again without any error msg.
Any experience like that?

I would try renaming the Data folder (or deleting it if you're not worried about your old data) and trying again. If that doesn't work I would check the drive for errors, then reinstall & rename (or delete) the Data folder.
