After starting the platform the updater is running and blocking everything. It can be killed only by electrically closing the PC. Windows shut down, TaskManager and Unlocker do not help. It even seems to me that it destroyed the raid of volume D while the platform was running on C (an SSD).
This is true for an updated existing platform (11.2), for starting PortApps after restart of the PC and for starting a fresh installed platform.
Sorry to hear about the issue. There's nothing in the platform that could block Windows from operating directly code-wise. When it copies or moves files, it just does it using the standard Windows APIs. And the platform's updater only uses the standard Windows Inet APIs to handle downloads.
1. Is it only the updater causing the issue? Does the platform itself work properly?
2. Does Internet Explorer work correctly and browse to website? As the updater uses the Windows APIs, they'll use the same components as IE so this is a good test.
3. Have you thoroughly scanned for viruses/malware?
4. Have you checked all your drives for errors?

Sorry for searching the issue on your side. I had blocked IE 5 of XP in the firewall for it is too unsave and I never need it. But you do. And your answer showed the way to the issue.

If you fully update Windows with all available patches as well as IE6 and the latest Windows Media Player... Even if you never use either, it will work with the widest array of software it can. It won't work with anything compiled with the latest MS compilers (filezilla etc) but will work with everything it can.
