when i got to open firefoz portable in the portable apps menu it comes up with an instance of firefox is running and it asks me to close any instances of firefox but the problem is i have no instances of firefox up what is going wrong?

Check task manager to see if firefox.exe is still running (sometimes Firefox 2.0 doesn't close properly if it's updating the anti-phishing list). If that's not it, be sure you're using all the default settings (no INI) within Firefox Portable.
