Error message: Firefox is already running when running under wine with Suse 10.2

Hi all,

I hope someone here can help me. I'm relatively new to Linux. I was a windows user for a long time but got increasingly frustrated with it and switched over a few days ago. I have a pocket drive with my portable firefox and gaimportable on it. Can't get either to work. Firefox keeps saying another instance of firefox is already running but not responding. It needs to be cleared if I want to load up or I need to go and reboot. Trouble is, this is just after I reboot. So Firefox isn't running.

My only guess is that linux actually keeps records of what you had running previously and so it continues to try loading firefox when I reboot, but I don't know how to stop it from doing that, if that is even where the problem lies. Any ideas?

Also, GaimPortable just gives me a whole series of error messages. I may try a fresh download of it and see if that does the job. . .

Note

that GaimPortable is not supported with Wine (see the apps compatibility page)

That solves that question.

That solves that question. I'm still trying to get Firefox Portable to work. I tried re-downloading it and re-installing. It installs just fine, but that's as far as I get. When I run FirefoxPortable, I get this error message: fixme:win:SetWindowTextA setting text "Mozilla Firefox - Portable Edition | Port ableApps.com" of other process window (nil) should not use SendMessage.

Any ideas? Thanks ever so much.

Eric
