Hi,
I've downloaded Opera Portable (ver: 35.0.2066.82). I have installed some extensions, synchronized my bookmarks with Opera's official service. All went fine. But when I start browser for 3rd time, all settings gone and it launched as a Fresh installation.
On my portableapps, this is the profile location:
H:\Portables\PortableApps\PortableApps\OperaPortable\App\Opera\profile\data
and I've observed that whenever I exit from Opera, somehow, it refreshes \data folder and so I lost all settings.
This never happened with Installed version of Opera (i.e.Non-Portable).
Is that default behavior with portable opera or I'm doing something wrong...?
Regards
Farrukh
The Opera profile is stored in OperaPortable\Data\profile and is moved to OperaProfile\App\Opera\profile while Opera is running. When you exit, it is moved back. This won't happen properly if you run opera.exe directly or set it as your default browser within the app. This won't happen if the permissions have been altered within the OperaPortable directories.

Thanks a lot John for the detailed TIP. I just equate the contents of both folders after installing all my required extensions.
BTW, I used PortableApps\PortableApps\OperaPortable\OperaPortable.exe to launch opera, but it was still resetting. I was launching it directly instead of using PortableApps menu. Does this hurt?

John,
Although, I equate both folders with updated extensions and bookmarks, but now it again resets everything. I guess, it has some meta record to follow, to get refreshed.

THIS IS ANNOYING.
I'VE LOST EVERYTHING!!!
PLEASE STOP FUSSING AROUND WITH OPERA PROFILE DATA. LET IT THERE WHERE IT IS.
[Edited to remove swearing in compliance with forum guidelines - Mod GC]
Please stop swearing (and shouting while we're on it). If you encounter a bug, please add relevant information so that the bug can be fixed. Moving the profile folder around (to Data) is the way the PA.c works. Otherwise the backup of app data would not work.
If flash messes with the way, opera is portablized, don't use it portable.
the latest PA with latest opera NEVER saves the changes - after I close opera then reopen, it opens as new.
I am stopping using opera/chrome with PA.
you are saying "Moving the profile folder around (to Data) is the way the PA.c works. Otherwise the backup of app data would not work." - ironically, this is the GUARANTEED way to lose data. just let the data where it is, stop moving data around. BUT IF YOU DO, PLEASE MAKE A BACKUP COPY
If a large amount of data is copied instead of moved, you might wait ages for an app to start. An app would be much more prone to break if the needed space is not availabe, etc.
Btw. you still don't give any information of your setup, so it is not easy for anyone to guess, why in your special case Opera Portable loses its data. I consider that a biug, but as I'm not the developer and don't use it, I have no idea why that happens. Opera seems not the best candidate to use portably, but generally, moving around data is an approved way to make apps portable.
It works for gazilion of people in every day use. If it breaks in your case, your information is needed to fix it (if possible).
I've removed your duplicate post from this thread, and removed the swearing in this one.

See depp.jones' excellent reply above.
I have just renamed the Profile name in \OperaPortable\App\Opera\ to another name such us old_Profile. Then Opera Portable extensions is be back as the same as before upgrading.
In addition, I have modified the version numbers in \OperaPortable\App\AppInfo\Launcher\OperaPortable.ini folder to the version that just be upgraded to. These two lines in the Launch and Language sections.
[Launch]
ProgramExecutable=Opera\40.0.2308.81\opera.exe
[Language]
CheckIfExists=%PAL:AppDir%\Opera\40.0.2308.81\localization\%PAL:LanguageCustom%.pak
Then Portable Opera ran well in the latest version.

You have an older copy which doesn't support internal upgrades. Please update to the latest release that does.

Don't change those lines - the version number is automatically determined from Opera's launcher.exe
I have been having the same problem. I make sure to always run the OperaPortable.exe but I often get the message about duplicate profiles. (Opera has crashed a number of times which may be causing the problem). I have deleted the offending profile folder and then I have to re-configure Opera.
Is there a way to turn off the copying of the profile? I am happy to use the Opera Sync for bookmarks etc.
Thanks very much for your efforts with this program.
