I'm familiar with the concept of portable applications, and I use the portable version of many of the applications that I use on a daily basis. But they don't need any special "platform" to run them - you just unzip them, and the configuration information is kept in a file instead of in the Windows registry. You can put the whole thing on a USB drive if desired, or wherever you want. So what exactly is the purpose of this PortableApps "platform"? What does it do? Why should I install it?
Thanks,
Rebeccah
The main reasons to use the PortableApps.com Platform is for easy organization/launching of your apps, easy installation of new apps from the PortableApps.com App Store and automatic updates of apps using the platform's automatic updater. That way, you have a simple start menu that lets you use your apps, install new apps, and keep them all up to date without ever opening a Windows Explorer window or a browser. It also handles a few additional things like safe automatic shutdown of all your apps when you're ready to eject/shutdown as well as portable fonts.
