LinuxPA (PortableApps.com style launcher for Linux)

I personally use linux mostly, and over the past year or so I've started to collect Linux apps that run off my flash drive, but there was a problem: How can I organize my apps? I finally decided to just make my own and make it use the PortableApps format. If you would like to try it out, or help me out, head over to the Github page or download the latest release.

Features:

  • Launch Windows apps if Wine is detected.
  • Download Wine (for portable usage)
  • Launch what executable you want
  • GTK based (should work on most linux desktops)
  • Download AppImage apps (not too fancy, but works)
  • Edit an app's name, catergory, and image easily!
  • Active development (ask for wanted features and they probably will happen)

Which Linux???

Which version of Linux do your apps work for? Slax, Slackware, Arch, Debian, mint, etc

Linux Version

I personally run and test Ubuntu, but, as far as I know, it should compile and run on all versions of Linux. I could be wrong though.

Listing of "executable files"

For reference, here's a good listing of "executable" files in Linux. http://askubuntu.com/a/174356

Thanks

I'm definitely going to look into making the app executable detection better, after I do a few more things.

A quick search

reveals these sites: https://www.orbital-apps.com/ and https://sourceforge.net/projects/portable/files/ though I know nothing about them. My experience with Linux is spinning up live cds of Mint and Puppy Linux and my experience with both is limited in scope. I'm no Linux guru, just a afficionado of techy geeky stuff that I read about on tech sites. There was another site that hosted apps for Linux but apparently it has been taken down. It was mentioned here in the forums iirc.

Analysis

OrbitalApps: A good source of portable linux apps, but the "launcher" has to actually be installed onto the host system, making it not a portable launcher (though the apps are and should be compatible with my launcher)

SourceForge: Abandoned because those are actually now AppImage (If you look, the maker is probono, which is who made the AppImage format.)
