Other "Portable" Apps...

I have the following apps running from Portable Apps and they seem to work well
Thought I would share (maybe there should be a link to other Apps not hosted here)

Anywayz they are:
Notepadd++ (Can't remember where I got the portable version but it's version 3.9:-/)
uTorrent
Skype (Which is portable already, just needs parameters)
YamiPod (for iPods)

To make uTorrent work Portable (don't know HOW portable it is, dunno if there is any registry calls)
Download the uTorrent EXE and place it in "uTorrentPortable" Directory
Create a empty file called settings.dat in the same directory and your done. The only down side is if you plug it into another PC and the Drive changes, your screwed LoL.

To make Skype portable:
I downloaded Skype, and copied ONLY the exe to "SkypePortable/bin" directory. I then created a batch and then converted it to exe (Google bat2exe) and placed it on my "SkypePortable" directory.
Here's the batch file:

@ECHO OFF
CD\PortableApps\SkypePortable
start bin/skype.exe /datapath:"Data" /removable

Any other Cool apps already Portable?

Regards,

I

Welcome

to the forums. Seeing as everything you have mentioned is available on the forums already, this is really a meaningless topic.

I registered...

...just to tell you what an asshole you are.

I do believe these are forums, no? As in, meant for discussion. They're NOT a wiki. If this was a wiki, I could understand your concern in repeated information; since its not a wiki, what's your excuse for being an asshole?

You know, it would've taken you alot less time to simply keep browsing without responding. Or, you could have replied with, "Thanks for the info!" or "Glad you got it working!". But, no, you saw a chance to be an asshole and jumped on it.

Grats. You win. You're a brave soldier on the battlefield of the internet.

It seems there's no shortage of assholes on these forums. Someone asks a legit question and all the get is the token RTFM or such.

I've been reading the forums here now for about an hour, and have seen exactly 1 helpful or nice response, while the rest have been from assholes. You know, its quite possible that not everyone is as technically savvy as some of you, or reads these forums day-in-and-day-out.

What a shame.

I don't mean to sound rude,

I don't mean to sound rude, but umm....take ur own advice...

"You know, it would've taken you alot less time to simply keep browsing without responding."

Sure maybe he was a bit blunt with his post, but i've seen plenty of helpful results come from him, and from the others as well. We realize not everyone has the same amount of experience, and there are times we may come across as rude or harsh. It is unnecessary, but at the same time it's really frustrating to see a new post, and then to read it and find that it contains info or asks a question that has already been posted several times. In most cases we'll still give an answer, but also include that the original poster should try using the search page on this site

What a shame...

What a shame that you had to respond like that. Ryan McCue is very helpful. If you are a responsible person like Ryan, you will factor in John's opinion with every post. If you are new (I do not admit I never made this mistake) you may be exempt (if you didn't read the forum guidelines, then you should also be exempt) to long lectures, unless you have repeatedly done this or done this on purpose (see this post). You are a shame and a disgrace to the PortableApps community. John has to buy more server space every time some ignoramus doesn't search the forums.

In the words of Tim Clark "thank you for consciously wasting our time ."

I've been quoted

Wow,
I've been quoted 8) Am I cool or what?
Nah, I'll never be cool Sad

Anyway, to make it clear, the above comments are directed to zzzz, not the original poster.

I can.

Understand that people join the forums, ask a question that's been asked like 15+ times, I did myself, but when they give additude. NO. That's all I'll say.

Yes

I can only add my voice to the choir and say that without Ryan, I wouldn't be where I am today (regarding portability + NSIS).
He is always there helping the newbies and really cares about this Forum. But I think he could have taken the time to provide his well-known and beloved Quicklinks.
But nobody is perfect...

And I am really curious to meeting someone who has the ability to tell who's an asshole after one hour. Never met one till now.

First impressions.

Go ahead and label me the asshole for being the whistle-blower, its to be expected from fanboi's like yourself; you don't want to hear that anything could possibly be wrong in your fantasyland.

I'm not the one that started the assholery. You should be speaking to the 1st responder.

"[...] You are a shame and a disgrace to the PortableApps community. [...]"

I would not in a million years call myself a part of this "community" (what a bastardization of the term).

"[...] John has to buy more server space every time some ignoramus doesn't search the forums. [...]"

Or he could make better use of his resources and simply delete duplicate threads.

Please see the forum

Please see the forum guidelines. Name calling and insults have no place here (i.e. "asshole").

ONE HOUR.

ONE HOUR. ONE HOUR. ONE HOUR.

Is that really enough to start judging people AND the forums?

You'll hopefully find eventually, basicially every person on this forums is HAPPY to help you. And you know what, Ryan DID help. He said, it's been discussed, now, that person can go search the forums to see what has been discussed.

I think

I think what rmccue is saying so bluntly is that you should have done a search of the forums to see if this was already covered. Then if you have anything new you could add it to that discussion.

Wow...

Interesting conversation... some apps I personally like are Torpark (anonymous browser)and Evernote (note taking: it's pretty cool because you can switch from ink to typed notes, as well as include screen clips from a built-in tool)

Thanks,
