John,
I'm confused.
In the thread, which I created:
https://portableapps.com/node/5503
I can edit my original post.
I can also edit my reply to your post:
https://portableapps.com/node/5503#comment-25511
But I can't edit the post:
https://portableapps.com/node/5503#comment-26236
which is the one I want to edit [i.e. this is not a picky mental exercise, I really do want to change the way I said something in the post]
Am I missing something. I can't see a pattern. I thought that it might be that I could not edit a post after it had been replied to, but then how come I can edit the first post which all the other posts are a reply to.
Confused as usual lately,
Tim
[Dam, I love this FF2 spell checker, I really do, if you right click the highlighted word it gives SUGGESTIONS, this is just TOO COOL! Thank you John, Thank you, thank you, thank you.]
The one you can't edit is older. Drupal will disallow editing posts either after a certain period of time or a certain number of posts after it. It's most likely the latter.
Vintage!
Actually, the missing factor is a reply. You can always edit your original topic (aka the first post in a thread) which, in Drupal terms, is a node. You can also edit your posts within a topic which, in Drupal terms, are comments. However, once someone replies to a comment (which will show up nested / indented) then that comment that was replied to can no longer be edited. It's part of Drupal and I believe the intent was so people can't alter a comment once someone has addressed it.
So, the short of it is:
- You can edit your original topic posts
- You can edit your replies to a topic up until someone replies to them
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Understood,
Since I can't edit the "comment" in question,
and it seems to be open to unintended misinterpretation [love that spell checker],
May I, as the creator of "node" 5503, request its deletion?
If so, please do so.
Thank you

Actually, the missing factor is a reply.
Oh. I just guessed.
Vintage!
Tsk, tsk John, still not using the proper elements
And of course, moderators can edit it at anytime
Tim, if you want it deleted we can do it, but I'd prefer just to lock the topic.

Ryan,
In a sense it might be better to just delete it.
If it's locked people could still read it and get the wrong idea.
As much as googoo ["no FF, I did not misspell it, I meant to spell that way, but thank you for bringing it to my attention!"] sucks farts [IMO] I don't want them or anybody else to get the wrong idea about the role and use of ads at this site.
By the way Ryan, are you really 13 years old?

That's amazing Ryan, that you know SO much at only thirteen years old, I'm fourteen.
Its scary how much youngsters know these days.
I did Desktop Support for 10+ years, and am something of a gadget geek.
Latest hardware, latest hacks and tweaks.
And yet some youngsters still know a lot that I don't.
I switched to software development 2 years ago, so at least I have an excuse there, I'm still a noob.

I am feeling just sooooooo old
I'm wonder if either of those two have ever even seen a 740kb floppy disk, not to mention a 360.:)
Come to think of it, "technically" I could be their grandfather
Tim
p.s. Smithtech, any update on the Yahoo Widget question/situation?
Things have got to get better, they can't get worse, or can they?
Technical Grandfather, nice:P
P.S. How do you do proper emoticons/smileys on these forums? I'm so used to messenger.
If you wrtie/edit a post, one line above the "post comment" button, there is a link.
On that page, there is a HUGE (well...:jawdrop:) list of smilies'n'stuff.

I say technically because both I and my son/daughter would have had to have had children at a fairly young age
[would have had to have had] try saying that 3 times fast
About the emoticons, you need to make sure you have a space before you type the smiley.
text [space] : ) yields
text. [space] : p yields
etc, etc, etc
without the space you get:
text:)
text:p

I've seen both, (in fact, I've still got a few lying around) but not really used the first.
Oh, and it's OK to feel old. I do

The Firefox 2 SpellCheck is pretty sweet, you finally don't have to get like the Google Toolbar.
[Haha, I also copied some of my online typing into a word processor (or even e-mail) to make sure everything was spelt right.]:P
