The online installer for jportable 8 update 144 is not working for me. Each time I try running the installer it gives me a SendRequest error and never downloads anything.

try downloading this and place it with the installer: jre-8u144-windows-i586.tar.gz
make sure the MD5 makes this: 9e986ce96d11cb2e74a3e2ecff997cd0
you may need to select a different mirror too
Be sure you can properly download files in IE on the affected computer. That's usually what that means. You can also manually download as indicated in the post above.
