there are some security software offers (file locker, ROHOS, USBSafeguard) that set up an encrypted virtual drive on USB stick for data.
Has anyone got Thunderbird to work properly and fast with such a method?

Portable Thunderbird in a virtual USB drive partition?
have you tried this?
https://portableapps.com/apps/security/veracrypt-portable
aber wirklich brauchbar wird es mit:
https://portableapps.com/shop/hardware
the reason is that to have real full access, you need this to be a drive (with drive letter etc) and for this you need drivers to be installed on the host computer. Th eportable verion of veracrypt install them and uninstall when closing, but you still need the ability to install drivers on the computer, menaing admin rights. This is normally not possible on work computers etc.
The hardware encrypted stick works on all computers and does not care what operating system they have.
