Applications in Another Languages

Hello guys and thank you for Portable Apps which is really good.

I have concern about the availability of applications in another languages as only english is available. As I'm french, I want to know if you are planning to release applications in french (not only the menu v1.2 which have translations available). I can contribute because I'm sure most people don't have the knowledge to do it themselve (beginners can't do that). I can make Portable Apps package like yours but in french.

But before going further, I need to know what is your future intention with portable apps because it seems you are about to publish a new version of the menu but nothing is going to be done about the availability of applications in another languages.

Are you willing to host applications in another languages on your website?

I've seen this post. This is

I've seen this post. This is exactly what I told about the current translation of portableapps. The only proposed translations are only for menu and installation.

The available applications are still in plain english. No other language are available for applications like putty, gaim, openoffice, audacity,...

As an example if someone wants OpenOffice in french, where he could find the file OpenOffice_Portable_2.0.4_fr-fr.paf.exe he could install on his usb key! I know it's easy to install a translation for Firefox, thunderbird and the like but it's not the case with all applications. And hacking an installation to have it in another language isn't for everyone as it needs good skills with computers.

Well

That's nothing to do with PortableApps.com, you'll have to go to the original author instead.

really strange

It's strange to find these files only on sourceforge.net and portableapps.com and hearing portableapps developers are not the authors of them. Anyway, thank you for taking time to write.

the portableapps developers

the portableapps developers only write the launchers to make the apps portable...the applications that they write launchers for are maintained by other groups of developers, and many of these apps have other translations available. If you would like other translations of the apps themselves, go to the website for the original, non-portable, app and see if other translations are avaiable. If so, use the launcher you already have, but replace the files for the app itself with whichever translation you are using

Sorry to borrow you again guys:

As it looks like nobody wants to take care of making .paf.exe files for another languages, what about some kind of collective contributions like for example Slax use for their modules. This way all people who want to contribute can make applications available in many languages and everybody can easily install and use them with a minimum of knowledge.

I don't think you understand fully.
We have translations available for the launchers and menu. The actual app is not made by PortableApps.com
e.g. AbiWord Portable has translations for the launcher. The app used within is called AbiWord. AbiWord is not made by PortableApps.com however it may have translations available from it's own site.
All PortableApps.com does is just get the base app (i.e. AbiWord) and add a launcher and some other stuff to make it portable. It does not touch the app (i.e. AbiWord) itself.
