This morning I installed an update to Thunderbird Portable and after "successful" installation it won't open. I receive an error message that reads: "thunderbird.exe can't be found." And yet, thunderbird.exe is shown as existing in the thunderbird/portable directory with a date of 3/8/2021 and a size of 177 bytes. I tried a second reinstallation. Same error message resulted.
Any help on this?
The English install is working here in both 32-bit and 64-bit mode. What language are you installing and to what path? Also which OS version and build number?

I’m using the English version. My path is
E:\PortableApps\ThunderbirdPortable.
Inside that directory are 6 subdirectories named
E:\PortableApps\ThunderbirdPortable\~PRESERVEDIRECTORY1
E:\PortableApps\ThunderbirdPortable\~PRESERVEDIRECTORY3
E:\PortableApps\ThunderbirdPortable\~PRESERVEDIRECTORY7
E:\PortableApps\ThunderbirdPortable\App
E:\PortableApps\ThunderbirdPortable\Data
E:\PortableApps\ThunderbirdPortable\Other
The executable is shown in E:\PortableApps\ThunderbirdPortable\ThunderbirdPortable.exe.
Oddly, while the file explorer does show the App subdirectory, the OS will not allow access. The error message says “Location is not available. E:\PortableApps\ThunderbirdPortable\App is not accessible. Access denied.”
I’m operating with Windows 10 Home, 64 bit, Version 1909, Build 18363.1379.
My installation procedure was my usual. I simply called up the PortableApps Platform, where I clicked on Apps, then clicked on Check For Updates. Two updates were shown, one for McAfee Stinger and one for Thunderbird. I installed both.
Thanks for your reply, John.
I'd suggest checking the drive for errors. Those ~PRESERVE folders shouldn't be there and it means the installer didn't fully complete successfully. I'd also suggest a fresh install to your Desktop directory (just download the app from our site and install to there) to confirm that works correctly and it's not an issue with an antivirus or malware on your machine.
