[Format] Type=PortableAppsFormat Version=0.9 [Details] Name=Miranda IM Portable ShortName=Miranda IM Publisher=Miranda IM Team & PortableApps.com (John T. Haller) Homepage=PortableApps.com/MirandaPortable Category=Internet Description=Miranda IM Portable is the popular Miranda IM packaged as a portable>> app, so you can take your instant messaging client on the go. InstallSize=2 [License] Shareable=true [Version] PackageVersion=0.6.8.0 PackageRevision=0 DisplayVersion=0.6.8 (ANSI) [Control] Icons=1 Start=MirandaPortable.exe
Based on this appinfo.ini, what will actually be displayed on the new PortableApps Menu?
Will it be "Name + DisplayVersion"?
This would result in: "Miranda IM Portable 0.6.8 (ANSI)"
Or will it be "ShortName + PackageVersion"?
This would result in: "Miranda IM 0.6.8.0"
Also, does InstallSize have to be an integer? Or can it be something like 10.75? I am assuming this is megabytes.
Any other information or specifications for this file would be appreciated so I can finalize some of my packages.
Any word on the next menu release??
Thank you,
/sgt
You don't wanna ask what will be in the next release, pretty much everything that is coming in it can be found in posts on this site. Just search like "next release" and you don't wanna ask when it's coming. Like John said, Say it with me, it will be done when it's done
Pretty sure install size is usually in MB, if not, KB for smaller.

I felt so different without a signature.
i'm not asking what will be in the next release, i am asking for a clarification of what information will be read from appinfo.ini and then displayed on the new menu.
i have no idea, and i don't think anyone else does save John and possibly a few others.
as for searching, i've wasted hours looking, no luck.
i'm just trying to find out if the name displayed on the menu will be taken from "name", "name + version", "shortname", "shortname + packageversion", etc, so i can finalize apps i've been working on and /not/ have to rebuild them all again after the new menu is released because my displayed names are all wrong.

but I would just wait for the release and adapt your apps then when you know it.
Besides that, I dont think John would put info in the appinfo.ini just for fun. So everything there has a reason.

Name will be shown in the menu
ShortName will probably be dropped in the final spec
Description will be used by the installer later
Category must be one of the categories listed on this site
InstallSize is the number of megabytes when installed and run for the first time (to generate any default data) It's expressed as XX.X (no more than one decimal place)
PackageVersion must be W.X.Y.Z where all are integers
PackageRevision will be going away
DisplayVersion is the human-readable version display

thank you!
and will "displayversion" also be seen on the menu next to the "name" value?
or will it only be the "name" value that is displayed on the menu?
thanks again!

The menu will only be displaying the name within the app list. The version and publisher will be displayed elsewhere.

awesome, ty!
sorry, did we get down to the [control] section?
[Control]
Icons=1
Start=something.exe
is this supposed to be the name of the portableapp "launcher" exe, like "ClamwinPortable.exe"? or does this have to be the name of the app\appportable\Real.exe like "clamwin.exe"?
or is this value even used?
-sgt
er, nevermind... the appinfo.ini's for existing apps are pointing to the the launcher, eg:
Start=7-ZipPortable.exe
-d
*cough*Auto-updater*cough*

What are valid values for the License section?
[License]
Shareable=true
I suppose that means you can freely share the program with others.
But shouldn't there be more here, such as the license type (GNU/Free, Donationware, Shareware, Commercial, etc..)
