[Fixed] Process Monitor update/installation bug

When I tried to update this specific app (version 3.89 to 3.90), it gave me an error (a problem downloading the binaries from downloads.sysinternals.com). Manually downloading the file does work.

I also tried to download the ProcessMonitorPortable_3.90_online.paf.exe to try to do a "clean" installation and it also fails with the same error. Details given by the installer:

Output folder: C:\Users\USER\PortableApps\ProcessMonitorPortable2
Installing Process Monitor Portable...
Create folder: C:\Users\USER\AppData\Local\Temp\nso4446.tmp\Downloaded
Downloading Process Monitor...
Installing Process Monitor Portable...
Rename: C:\Users\USER\AppData\Local\Temp\nso4446.tmp\Downloaded\Process Monitor->C:\Users\USER\AppData\Local\Temp\nso4446.tmp\Downloaded\processmonitor.zip
Create folder: C:\Users\USER\AppData\Local\Temp\nso4446.tmp\Downloaded
Downloading Process Monitor...
Installing Process Monitor Portable...
Rename: C:\Users\USER\AppData\Local\Temp\nso4446.tmp\Downloaded\Process Monitor->C:\Users\USER\AppData\Local\Temp\nso4446.tmp\Downloaded\processmonitor.zip
Delete file: C:\Users\USER\AppData\Local\Temp\nso4446.tmp\Downloaded\processmonitor.zip
The downloaded copy of Process Monitor is not valid and can not be installed. Please try installing again.

There's a more detailed error on a popup window that can't be copy-pasted:

The downloaded copy of Process Monitor (https://download.sysinternals.com/files/ProcessMonitor.zip) is not valid and can not be installed. This could be due to an incomplete download or other network issue. Please try running the updater again when complete.

However, I can download the file from https://download.sysinternals.com/files/ProcessMonitor.zip and it doesn't have any errors, in fact I can run the included executable files just fine.

For what's worth, there's a new version of Process Montor (3.91), so I'm guessing that there's some sort of checksum test done to the downloaded zip file and it doesn't match because it's being checked against the previous version file.

New Version

As always with apps like Process Monitor, that means a new version was released. You can let us know in the Outdated Apps thread. Sysinternals reuses the same download link over and over for new releases. We don't release apps until we verify and scan them for malware, so the hash doesn't match when they release a new app.

I've just run the updater

I've just run the updater again and the latest 3.91 version was already up, worked fine.

Thanks a lot for fixing this, John!

Process Monitor v 3.92 still failing to install

As of March 21th 2023 I get the same error window pop-up telling me "The downloaded copy of Process Monitor..." both using "Get More Apps..." or using "Install a New App (paf.exe)". I checked also the version offered in PA is latest version 3.92 according to what seems to be the official site (https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/sysinternals-blog/bg-p/Sysinterna...).

The PA platform is up to date (v 24.1) running on an also up to date version of MS Windows 10 (22H2, OS Build 19045.2728, 64-bit edition).

Any ideas what could the reason be?

New version

This usually means a new version has been released by the publisher but our package hasn't been updated. A quick check shows the publisher released a new version but didn't announce it again. You'll find it tracked in our Outdated apps thread: https://portableapps.com/development/outdated

Process Monitor v 3.92 still failing to install

Thanks John for chiming in. I understand that that can be "usually" the reason why the error message appears, but as I said, I doubled checked and both versions, the one announced by the publisher and the packaged in PA are the same: v3.92.

More specifically than the previous link included in my post, here is the page showing that:
https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/sysinternals-blog/process-explore...

So I guess this still qualifies as an unresolved issue despite the prefix Fixed.

3.93

3.93 was released by PA.c yesterday. It was released by the publisher earlier this month but they didn't announce it. You can verify this on the publisher's homepage. The Process Monitor Portable 3.92 installer will not work now that a new release was made by the publisher. Please download the Process Monitor Portable 3.93 installer.

Looks like it's broken again.

Looks like it's broken again. 3.94 was silently released June 7.

Outdated Apps

Please post to the outdated Apps thread as it is an app update not a bug. Thanks.

App Notes

For such apps, a remark should be added in the App Notes chapter, to inform newbies and avoid a lot of 'flood', IMO.
