About TidyTabs on .NET issue

About TidyTabs it says here:

.NET App Warning - This app requires .NET 4.5 which requires an admin to manually install it on Windows Vista and 7. It will not work on XP. It may also be installed if you have "recommended updates" selected instead of critical on these operating systems which is not the default. This app was accidentally released as we do not yet support .NET apps for inclusion due to confusion like this. Our appologies for the mixup. The app has been removed. It will be re-introduced at a later time. If you would like to use this app now, please use the official version of TidyTabs from the publisher.

Isn't some .NET apps already official on PortableApps.com like KeePass 2 and Paint.NET?

Different But Coming

KeePass supports .NET 2 and 4, so it will run out of the box on Windows 7 through 11 as well as Vista with updates and XP with .NET 2 installed. These 'dual version' packages of either 4or2, 4or3, or 4or3.5 were the first apps we added in.

paint.net bundles the .NET 6 runtimes so it works out of the box on Windows 8.1 through 11 as well as Windows 7 with the Platform Update installed (which is often already done automatically). It won't work on Windows 8.0. These bundles were the second apps we added in.

The next set will be things like this which requires a specific framework version. In this case, .NET 4.5 is included out of the box on Windows 8 through 11 but must be specifically installed on Windows 7. That platform can check for this. So, these will be released shortly, including TidyTabs.

For details on the sets we use in the PA.c Format, you can see the developer details here: https://portableapps.com/development/portableapps.com_format#usesdotnetv...

The details on usage based on your OS as shown to users are included in our Support section here: https://portableapps.com/support/dotnet

I think I would also consider

I think I would also consider adding Handbrake as one of the upcoming apps that requires .NET framework. It's one of the most requested ones.

Handbrake Can't Be Portable

Unfortunately Handbrake can't be portable at the moment. It requires .NET 6 and they are unable to bundle it at present. The .NET 5/6/7 releases are separate from the .NET Framework that preceded it. .NET 6 is not bundled with any Windows release and never will be. They must be manually installed into Windows with admin rights. As such, any app that requires .NET 5/6/7 and does not bundle it can never be considered portable. Apps that bundle it like paint.net are fine: https://portableapps.com/support/dotnet
