Context menus and file associations

Hey dudes and/or ladies,
I like context menus. I like being able to right-click any file and have an option, right there, to "Open in Notepad++". Now, I know menus are "done up" in the registry, but I think for those particular settings to become active one must re-login, or restart the machine. That wouldn't seem to work for a portable app.

I also like file associations. For example, I have bits of .NEO files scattered about. I utterly abhor using any program's File>Open>Browse dialog.

Oh, also I have a couple custom context commands, like "Send to parent".

So smart dudes and ladies, how can I make my file associations and context associations portable? All hacks (using bat files, even) are fine here.

And yes I googled the shit out of this. Plenty of info on modifying the registry but none whatsoever on making said changes portable!

Love and kisses,
- the fredd

Not sure.

Exactly what you're looking for but Convey Portable is a portable send-to manager, and it uses the send to context menu as an open with menu. Check it out.

It kinda works.

It doesn't let me run my registry bits, but it does have some file association functionality. I'll get back to you chaps in a while and let you know how it worked out.

EDIT: Wait, not really. SendTo is pretty inconvenient. I think I need to redefine what I'm looking for.

I really want to be able to have a set of registry keys (contained in a .reg file) which are executed in a sand-boxish manner. The existing values of the keys, if any, are saved in another reg file, which are restored when the application ends.

Does anyone know of an app that does this? If not, what are the chances of getting the portableApp to do something along those lines?

I have only seen one and

I have only seen one and that was only for U3.
I have made the suggestion to a couple of software vendors but haven't seen it go anywhere.
Once I pass the last test for my cert, I was thinking about writing one, won't be until after june or july though.

Should be easy.

I really want to be able to have a set of registry keys (contained in a .reg file) which are executed in a sand-boxish manner. The existing values of the keys, if any, are saved in another reg file, which are restored when the application ends.

Quite easy to do. There are several portable applications out there that already to this to make programs portable. You should be able to modify Registry Rapper to do this.
