Password protecting an entire drive?

Is there any free software that makes me input a password before I can even access the jumpdrive?

Because I keep my instant message logs and important files on mine, and while I protect the individual files, I'd like keep the entire drive unusable without some master password.

Thanks

I think that you can encrypt

I think that you can encrypt the whole drive but then I don't think you would be able to use portable apps. Is that right everyone?

If you made a TrueCrypt container that covers like 99% of the

drive than yes, and you can still use PortableApps (I do this all the time). Since you can mount the container as a drive!

Seems pretty good, but would

Seems pretty good, but would I need the software on every machine that I take the USB drive to? It just seems that the way they're decrypting the data would require their software to be installed.
