NNTP != RSS feeds
NewsGrabber hasn't had a new version in almost 3 years? That sounds like a dead project to me.

I didn't know whether it was NNTP or RSS, so I just suggested that. Otherwise, I believe that Thunderbird can.

I must admit I have not used a client side RSS reader in years.
I much prefer reader.google.com
Per my first post in this thread...the original poster is asking about NewsGrabber which is a news reader as in a Network News Transporst Protocol (NNTP) client. This is the original type of "news" available on the internet.
This has zero to do with an RSS reader.

For the non-programmer types out there, "!=" means "does not equal" in some programming languages.
Like: apples != oranges
or
NNTP != RSS feeds

you are right I am looking for a Network News Transporst Protocol (NNTP) client.
like (if not) NewsGrabber, can it be made portable?
As Ryan suggested above, try Thunderbird for now. I don't think it has a lot of "fancy" NNTP client features, but it may work for you.
As far as making NewsGrabber portable, I dunno.

Sorry about that, the perils of skim reading posts !
