Per my first post in this thread...the original poster is asking about NewsGrabber which is a news reader as in a Network News Transporst Protocol (NNTP) client. This is the original type of "news" available on the internet.

NNTP != RSS feeds
NewsGrabber hasn't had a new version in almost 3 years? That sounds like a dead project to me.

I must admit I have not used a client side RSS reader in years.
I much prefer reader.google.com

like (if not) NewsGrabber, can it be made portable?
As Ryan suggested above, try Thunderbird for now. I don't think it has a lot of "fancy" NNTP client features, but it may work for you.
As far as making NewsGrabber portable, I dunno.
