Wiki

I've seen some suggestions for portable wikis and after searching the net I have found 2 that I think are the best I found yet. These are personal wiki's and reside in one (!) xhtml file and don't have dependancies on other things. (Some others use perl or python, but not these)

Wiki On A Stick (aka StickWiki)
http://stickwiki.sourceforge.net/

TiddlyWiki
http://www.tiddlywiki.com/

I could not decide which one is better. TiddlyWiki has a lot more options but that also makes th file twice as big and it's user interface is more cluttered. StickWiki on the other hand is much more basic but might be more intuitive. So I would suggest both wiki's to be included.

The problem with these kind of wiki's is that they don't have an executable, just an htm file. Having these in the PA platform needs an exe that starts the html and an installer even which might seem to undermine the purpose of these wiki's.

Well these Wiki's are completely portable as they are and I think both should be included into Portable Apps somehow. Highly recommended!

If anyone knows of similar one file Wiki's (that dont use python or other dependancies) I would like to check them out.

PS. I realise wiki's have been discussed before...

They seem nice, but they

They seem nice, but they both rely on Python. The ones I mentioned are entirely stand alone in one xhtml file.

Actually MoinMoin had an included python dll file

so it does not matter and I don't think WikidPad is rely on Python.

Just becasuse smething relies on something does not

mean it has to be installed on every comp to be used (this is true with Java and .NET but with things what can be used from a dll like Python theres is no need to have it installed on every comp)

I agree

I agree, some dll will do the job just fine. I just love the way that tiddlywiki and wiki on a stick are 'only' one file that does it all. It's strength is also its weakness I presume because you cant just put it online and have anybody edit it. But it's completely browser based Smile

Curious about wikipad though...

Its...

WikidPad
Its not a one file app but it is light-medium weight and it is pretty good.

And I just figured that WikidPad is Python based, but I think my school comp does not have Python installed and WikidPad works on it.

Also WikidPad is not browser-based it has its own GUI.

MoinMoin (DesktopEdition)

has already been adapted by this thread's starter and me:
https://portableapps.com/node/9029

I don't particularly like his approach, but it works. Please try to improve. Smile

I hate splashy things,

but MoinMoin requires some seconds to start, anyway - so, pls go ahead.

I did not say it was light-weight......

its because of the wiki files themselves.

Any news?

I've just discovered WikidPad, and would love to use this on a stick. Has anyone progressed this?

Just curious. Grateful for all the good work here Smile

I know

Espreon had a beta in the forums a while back, I'm thinking of taking a shot at it soon, I just wanna look into the license again, I'm not sure it's completely open source.
