There should be one forum for non-members to post

When I first signed on I had a problem getting my registration information by Email. Probably caught in a filter. I tried again with the same result. Finally on the 3rd attempt I used another Email address and Got in. The problem was that when I had the issue there was no place I could post and no contact address for this type of issue. Now the database is sitting there with a dead account for no good reason other than it's taking up space.

Had I been able to contact someone I could have requested that the logon info be sent to a different address and then activated the origional account.

Good Solution

For that just place those image checks. The bots are unable of identifying what's in there. Also, it is a forum for non members, that means a space where members and non-members can post, inside the main forum. The unregistered people would be unable of posting outside that forum. If too many Spam by the same people is posted, then that IP is banned and those treads deleted.

Blue is everything.

this site didn't work for you?

https://portableapps.com/about/contact which has always worked for me. Or did not one respond?

Don't be an uberPr∅. They are stinky.

Not a Big Deal...

Well you're in now...
The developers and forum moderators are probably already overloaded with work.
It's charity you see...the open source soft...keeps them busy.
So if you want to help...be everybody's guest...do something usefull.

Nope
  1. Your reason is flawed. It's only a very simple database entry, so it would only be about 1kb or less. Plus, I think Drupal periodically goes through and deletes the old ones.
  2. It takes less than 10 minutes to sign up anyway
  3. Would increase spam substantially. (Even with CAPTCHAs)

Drupal Doesn't, I do

Drupal doesn't do it. But I have scripts that do. And the script that lists the registered user counts on the forums page I wrote to automatically exclude them.

Having a forum that allows anonymous posting is just asking for trouble in terms of spam, abuse and extra maintenance. The tools in Drupal aren't really made to handle it.

The signup page specifically says to be sure that you can receive mail from an @portableapps.com email address and to add that if you use one of those ridiculous challenge/response systems (though I don't use the work ridiculous on that page). There's only so much we can do when people have an email setup that doesn't work right.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

I see

I didn't think it was Drupal because it doesn't do it on some of my test sites, but I guessed that was a server problem Smile

Too bad Akismet isn't integrated with Drupal. That would make it possible.

It should have been simpler

Really all I would like to see was a contact where I could have explained the problem and asked that the loggin info be forwarded to a different address without changing the account at all. I was going to try setting it up with a different email address but just got the message that the selected name was already in use. That's right. It was in use , by me. However that account is now unusable.

Well

Did you try clicking "Contact Us"? It would have been the logical thing to do.
