Copy Other\Source\FirefoxPortable.ini into the same folder as FirefoxPortable.exe and edit it. All paths are relative to the launcher.

its actually in Other\FirefoxPortableSource but thanks very much
why would you copy it into the base folder of the installation before changing it?
why couldnt you just edit it where it is?
thanks

It reads it from where it is located, in case you want to reorder your directory structure, otherwise it wouldn't know where to find it.
It seems John hasn't started using Source instead of FirefoxPortableSource yet I'm assuming you are using 2.0.0.8

If you think about, if you leave it there, the launcher would have to read the INI from "$EXEDIR\Other\FirefoxPortableSource\FirefoxPortable.ini" (where $EXEDIR is wherever the launcher is, usually E:\PortableApps\FirefoxPortable). The point of being able to change the paths wouldn't make any sense, because you can't change the path of the INI.
The point is, the launcher reads it from "$EXEDIR\FirefoxPortable.ini" only, nowhere else.

i dont know what point of being able to change the paths you mean.
i didnt know that the launcher reads the ini only if it is in the same directory.
so the ini in the source folder isnt used.
are any of the files in the source folder used or are they just used for manual intervention like this case?
i should be able to do what i want with the profile folders now though.
thanks very much

The source folder is for people who want to build their own portable apps and use those as a base. But no; you can delete the folder and nothing will happen.
The readme.txt in the source folder explains how to use each of the INI entries.
The point of being able to change them is just that some people like to do that. They like to have all the apps in one folder and the data in another. Some launchers don't have this functionality, for the sake of simplicity.
