Songbird: Media library database in fixed location on drive.

Submitted by SnowFreak on October 28, 2009 - 9:40am

To whom it may concern.

Library files are placed in relation to the root of the drive, not the .exe file.

After getting used to Songbird for the last year, to my pleasant surprise, it's also available as a portable app now. No more using third party tools (and/or add-ons) to save all the metadata not stored in the media files themselves. Yay!

I was having an issue with an access denied message in uTorrent Portable until I found in their forums that files flagged as read only can cause this error. Removed the flags from the downloads and torrents folder in the Data folder and working now. Can anyone else confirm this behaviour and if this solution works for them.

GoogleChrome Portable problems

Submitted by whiskers on October 24, 2009 - 9:29am

Hi,

i'm having a problem trying to get GoogleChrome Portable working when installed to my hard drive. [specifically the program folder] It will install fine, but clicking the icon does nothing. I tried installing it to another part of the hard drive [E:\ instead of C:\] and it worked fine from there.

I've installed it on my USB device, and it runs fine from there. tried copy-pasting the working one from my USB to the program files folder, and it still didn't work.

I've installed other portable apps and they've all ran fine [Pidgin, Skype etc]

I just downloaded skype portable.
for some reason the language came up in hebrew, so after logged in I changed the Language in the "Tools" panel and it changed to english ... so far so good.

I closed skype and re-opened it and it was hebrew again.
wtf ?!

how can I permanently change to english ?

Skype Portable

Submitted by Orsino on October 23, 2009 - 11:54am

Hi,

I run 2 instances of Skype (with 2 different skype names) on the desktop. The second one is started with the parameter "/secondary"

Just tried this on the latest portable version and it does not seem to work. Guess the launcher does not pass on the parameter to the skype.exe.

May I suggest to add this capability to Skype Portable?

Google Chrome Themes

Submitted by dougakins on October 22, 2009 - 10:55pm

I noticed in one of the other threads when Chrome was in its testing phase for becoming portable, some people were having issues with their theme staying saved. Every time they restarted Chrome it was back to the default theme. Mine is doing the same thing and I wondered if anyone found a fix for that yet?
