Gmail drive

Submitted by tlr on October 2, 2008 - 5:57pm

i would like to report a cool little thing i found wich adds a drive under my computer

labeled: gmail drive

it allows you to connect and store files on your gmail account.
what is so good about this is it is over 7 gigs worth of storage and if somthing happens to your computer you can go to another computer and still have all your data.

Some Revisions needed for "Request Apps" Forum Guidelines?

Submitted by BrianAll on October 1, 2008 - 7:16pm

Okay,

Jumping straight to the point, IMHO the request apps forum is in dire need of some reforms. To be honest, it's really getting on my nerves to see a request for Adobe Photoshop every time I look in there, to the point I've been avoiding that forum. There's already been around five requests for Photoshop, yet even more for other commercial, closed programs.

"My PortableApps" site enhancement

Submitted by Var on October 1, 2008 - 4:28am

Is there the potential to introduce a new feature to the site, which would enable a site user to see at a glance a selectable list of all the PortableApps they have downloaded (and are presumably using) alongside that portableapp's most recent version number.

Something similar to the current "What's New" section on the homepage, but coded to display and update on either the homepage only (as "What's New" currently does) or for any site/forum page visited.

Question about running a program on a thumb drive..

Submitted by Blind Melon on September 30, 2008 - 7:53pm

Alright, I wasn't too sure if this was the right forum or not, but here goes. I want to run Reason (a music making program) solely on my flash drive at College, but the problem is, when the .exe runs, it tries to store files on the computer, but this isn't allowed since you have to be the administrator and all. I was wondering if there was a way for me to get around this? I guess the only thing I really have to do is redirect where the .exe is trying to run and have it run off of my flash drive, but I have no clue how to do that...

[Idea] PortableApps Taskbar

I don't even know if it's possible, but I had an idea that I thought wat pretty cool.

You could make a taskbar, like the windows taskbar, where the PA logo is like the vista start-logo, and when you hit it, it opens up the menu. Now, This is the part I don't know if it's possible, but it you could minimize the applications running from the same drive as the PATaskbar, it could minimize those applications to that taskbar.
It could look like This.

Portable hard drives and Portable apps?

Submitted by urban1 on September 29, 2008 - 11:29am

This may be a silly question, but I appear to be able to use all the portable apps on a thumb drive (usb stick) just fine, but I recently got a little (lol, my first hard drive was a huge 10 mb) 60gb usb hard drive. I am especially not able to run Firefox from that drive. Most of the other apps work although I have not done an extensive test (I downloaded Suite Standard). Firefox seems to fail trying to write back to the drive and immediately shuts down. Is this something inherent in Firefox, something peculiar to Portable Apps or something strange on my end.
