Another password manager - Acerose

Submitted by zogus on September 6, 2007 - 8:17pm

I just thought I'd mention another password manager that works with PortableApps menu. It is Acerose Passwor Vault.

I have been using it for longer than I have known about PortableApps and am very happy with it. It manages all my passwords and has a built in password generator. It already runs from a USB drive and runs well from portableapps.

Just thought I'd mention it if people were interested in an alternmative to keepass.

Need instructions on mIRC please

Submitted by zogus on September 6, 2007 - 8:05pm

I know that there are many discussions already about using mIRC and I have read all of them. I am still a bit confused on how to go amout installing mIRC for use on the PortableApps menu.

I think I have a basic understanding of the scripting, but don't really know how to go about packaging and installing it all.

Could someone please put up a step-by-step that goes theough the entire process of doing it? Where I put mIRC, how it gets installed, what I need to edit, what I need to run etc.

I just downloaded Zinio Reader in my U3 device, and mailed the company to request a USB version but...

Is there any software like Zinio with the ability to run on normal USB with PAM or PStart.

There is a related topic but it's already closed, so I opened this new one...

Greetings!

KompoZer vs Nvu, Upgrades, Possible Suite Inclusion

At the moment, Nvu is still the main HTML editor listed in the directory. But, as most folks know, Nvu development was stopped in June of 2005 and will not be continued. Eventually, Composer2 will be released (maybe) and be based on the newer XULRunner setups in Firefox2, etc.

I went on the computers at our school for the first time today. My homepage on Firefox is start.portableapps.com. The page came up as blocked due to freeware and software download. I went to the homepage of PortableApps, and guess what? Blocked (As I assumed it would be). I am probably one of the only people at my school who goes on the website, and I got it blocked. Kinda funny how much people will go through to stop you from doing stuff. It's not like this site is going to do anything to us at all... grrrr.

Separate All Settings from All Apps

Submitted by sixdoubleo on September 5, 2007 - 12:55pm

First off, I really love portable apps and all the development that has been going on towards portablizing apps...it's been a long time coming.

AFter using it a while I was thinking that it might be advantageous to separate the settings from the apps.

So something like...

\PortableApps\FireFox
\PortableApps\FileZilla

\Settings\FireFox
\Settings\FileZilla

While this might seem like more to manage now that each app has TWO folders, I think it would help for the following reasons:

Portable Apps?USB Key Security

Submitted by rusty1979uk on September 5, 2007 - 5:41am

I'm new to Portable Apps & U3 & have some questions around security for Portable Apps. I like the security in U3 but want to can it & move completely to Portable Apps. Does anyone know of any plans to build security into Portable Apps or can anyone recommend a good piece of security software for securing folders on my USB key?

Thanks

Steve
