Does PortableApps Interfere? Read+Answer

Submitted by The_Questioneer on August 29, 2007 - 11:20pm

Hi, Nowdays most, if not all, USB flash drives come with preloaded software and formating to some extent. I don't know if I'm fully commited to installing PortableApps so I have a few questions.

1) Does PortableApps rewrite/reformat the entire drive or is it a standalone program?

> a)If so, is there a way to back up/rip ever piece of software/formating that is preloaded on the drive?

2)Does PortableApps also give me the option to save settings/desktop environment or just programs?

None of the apps will start up

Hello, I recently bought an 8 gb flash drive and have been looking to get some portable apps on it! I just installed the standard suite to the root directory of my flash drive, howver every time I try to start any of the portable apps exe's I get this error message:

Any ideas?

Question about making an app portable

Submitted by horrormaster34 on August 28, 2007 - 1:28am

Is it legal to create a portable launcher for a program that is free, but not open-source?

Since DVDShrink isn't portable (leaves files in app data folder), I was thinking of trying to make a portable launcher for it since I saw one person made one for EAC, which is free, but not open-source.

If I can't, that's cool. If I can, awesome.

[ATTN: John] Newsletter - Can We Get Some People On It?

Submitted by Patrick Patience on August 28, 2007 - 1:12am

Many of you have signed up for the newsletter, and have probably noticed it hasn't come. I'm sure this is just because John Haller is very busy with many other things. So I'm wondering, John would you be able to assign some people to work on the newsletter so people don't continue signing up for it and not receiving it. I saw this comment which was a long time ago. I know you say things will be released within like a week or something, and sometimes don't get around to them, and I don't blame you.
