just to get this out of the way, recently, mods have started requesting that we use the Add Comment link instead of just replying, problem is, i dont feel like scrolling down through 50 posts on "Corrupt a Wish" and then scrolling all the way back up to the top just to hit the Add Comment instead of the convienient Reply. **do you think we could have the Add Comment replace or at least be next to the Reply?**

Such thing exist. Check the distribution DSL

The basic system is only 50Mb, including basic aplications.
Can boot from cd, usb or hard disk.
Can boot on windows using qemu virtual machine.

All you need is to add it to your menu.

Until recently I have been using a 1gb usb.
Then when I went to upgrade I saw a 120 gb Western Digital external/portale hard drive. Being tha newbie I am, I thought it would act the same as a usb just massive :o)

I really dislike the documents and settings folder. Over years more and more cruft is inside. It`s complex and difficult to clean up.

Is there some common way to redirect any request of an application to write to %appdata% to /programfolder/username?

That way software would be already much more portable and I could delete all files of applications I am no longer using.

I am thinking of buying an IronKey and using PortableApps on it. Does anyone know how well they both work together? That is, are there any compatibility problems installing/running PortableApps on the IronKey?

I dunno why, but somehow I'm under the impression that some problems might arise (possibly because of the hardware-based encryption).

is it possible to use a portable Application as default-Application inside another portable application?

e.g.
- sumatraPDF as (of course external) pdf-viewer used in portable Firefox
- portable Firefox as the Browser that opens urls from portable Thunderbird
- Notepad++ Portable as the default editor used in winscp-portable
- winmerge in rapidsvn portable

Only to give some use cases. Is there already a way, to do this complete or partly? If not, is anyone else interested in such things, and would it be worth some effort?

Ok i was wondering if i could install and make a start menu icon for portable applications that are not on this site and how i would go about doing that i have tried once but was not able to get it to work properly any help would be greatly appreciated

I was trying to troubleshoot a plugin problem with FF Portable the other day, and posted on a forum on what I should check (grey bar with red up arrow, menus blank etc). The main respondent just said "why bother doing anything? It's a portable app, just copy out your bookmarks.html, delete the damn thing and reinstall it!" Fair call, and it's what I ended up doing, even though I then had to go through and re-enter all my passwords etc.

I'm not sure but I think we may need to delete the link in this node/post
