changing .paf a bit to get an portableapps updater?

Submitted by jps on March 31, 2008 - 9:12am

I suggest to change the .paf format a bit. Don`t worry there will be 100 % backward compatibly.

All my portableapps are on one folder on my hd, other people will also do this in a similar way.

Let`s add a new file or in an existing file a new entry. But the version info in a standardized way into it.

From there it`s easy to make an error resident updater. The updater downloades the version info from a special page from portableapps.com / sf.net or any other good hosting (signed message in usenet if you worry about traffic).

Donating money

Submitted by gsk3rd on March 30, 2008 - 7:34pm

Hello all. Well I have been lurking around now for about a month downloading and using the software and i have to say that I am super excited about this portable movement. Since installing the PA software I have created a few backgrounds for my menu and love that everything is open source. If I where to donate money to PA, where would it go to? Are there any benefits to donating money. Would I have an super cool status?

ps. I am on a daily watch for PAM 1.5 alpha.

The mysterious "User 1"

Submitted by BrianAll on March 29, 2008 - 7:33pm

So here I am surfing the portableapps forums, and lo and behold I end up on John's user page. We all know who has the most seniority here, and John's been a forum member for 2 years, 17 weeks, as of today.
But look up in the address bar and, strangely, it says user/2. Hmmmm... I replace "2" with "1", and here I have User 1: administrator!!!! I wonder who that could be... Wink
Ha Ha, joke's over. Biggrin I think we all know who it is, but how about this:

The user page for "administrator" says this:
Member for
38 years 13 weeks

Direct Access to files within the USB

More than a program is a suggestion (sorry if this is not where it should be), if one could take into account the functionality of the 'Remora USB Quick Launch' (http://www.richskills.com/products/5/freeversion. asp), with which we can show as configuring direct access Word files (.doc), Excel (.xls). Only by putting the vast extension (*.pdf, *.doc, *.exe, *.ppt) and automatically looking inside your USB and our direct access within a folder whose name is the original folder that contains this file.
Example:
The USB: D:\Jobs\tesis.pdf

Spanish Help Needed - Toucan

Steve Lamerton's picture
Submitted by Steve Lamerton on March 28, 2008 - 5:13pm

As you may know I have had three sets of translations for Spanish in Toucan, not being a Spanish speaker myself I have no way of knowing which set is best, but it was suggested that I put them all up and let you, the users, choose, so here they are.

You will need a copy of poEdit installed. You can get all three of the po files here they are in the file called Spanish.zip

Any feedback as to which set is best, or a combination, would be most appreciated.

How about a thread that lists all apps that have been previously requested and can't be made portable for one reason or another. This may make it less likely for new members to re-request apps.

Anyone who could assist in the compilation of this list could do so, if this idea were to be enacted.

Options Menu....

Submitted by sandyradz on March 28, 2008 - 12:53am

I was looking at the theme tutorial, and have done a bit of searching on the site, but i am surprised to find that,

My options button in PAM only gives me :

Small/Large Fonts
Install new app
Refresh Apps
Get more apps
Language

While other option buttons have many options, check out this link

How do I make mine like that, when I have Beta 4 R30 already?

Cheers

encrypted messenger with support for offline messages?

Submitted by jps on March 27, 2008 - 1:16pm

We are currently using Pidgin Portable with OTR Portable which works great. It only lacks an important feature: sending messages while the correspondent is offline (normally it works with jabber without any problems but the encryption plugins do not support this).

Psi with OpenPGP also works very well but does not support portable use together with OpenPGP.
